I became a huge fine through their self-titled album, and was rather disappointed with this one after a few listens.rFirst off, upon first listen it sounds over produced. That is a damn shame, because their best feature is their raw, blunt sound.rSecond, some of the lyrics are god awful. Specifically, Santa Monica. "Sometimes I cry, when I get sad" Really? That's real deep guys. Additionally, the chorus "Emotional baby boy. Emotional man. I am emotional" I cannot believe someone actually wrote a song and used the statement "I am emotional" in it. The whole point of art and poetry is to avoid having to use the that phrase. Another poor song is Lone Star, which attempts to tell a story in a far too blunt, un-clever, uninteresting way.rNegatives aside, while it's not necessarily what I had hoped for, I think it is still a good step toward success for the band. There are gems on the record. 'Skeleton' is a fun song about nothing more than smoking weed. 'Backflip' is an upbeat song with clever "bring young" lyrics, and an classic Front Bottoms sound. Certain songs just give out the "We're trying hard to not try that hard" vibe. I'm excited to see what's next for these guys.
