I?m not afraid to throw out the c-word. Name 1 bad song on this album. Hell, name one unremarkable song. You cannot.
EDIT: Fantano stop copying me. |
| Cocteau Twins Heaven or Las Vegas |
| D'Angelo Voodoo |
| Ethel Cain Perverts |
I didn't even like Preachers Daughter. I was just minding my own business and here she goes making the album (EP?) of
the year. As a work of poetry alone, this is a masterpiece. |

| I'm not Brazilian, nor do I speak Portuguese, but when Milton belts out "Ou nada!" I feel it all the way down to my toes. Absolute masterpiece, full of moments that will stay with me until I die. |

| Queens of the Stone Age ...Like Clockwork |
| Spellling The Turning Wheel |
| Yes, the vocals didn't work for me at first, but I learned to love the record anyway. This album is a masterpiece. The bass backdrop on "Sweet Talk", the string cadenza at the end of "Emperor with an Egg", the psychedelic poetry of "Magic Act" are just 3 of the reasons I fell in love with this record. Do yourself a favor and listen to this with the lyrics open, if you haven't already. |

| Hurwitz' best, most daring work yet. The musical textures seem like they wouldn't fit the story, but the use of harp and theremin were lovely and bold. |

I was not expecting this album to remind me of Prequelle-era Ghost of all things, but here we are! The album just gets
more and more intense as it goes on, and while I miss The Turning Wheel's perfectly balanced production, Portrait's
muddier mix brings its own rewards.
Also, bold move ending the album with THAT song... I'm not sure if I like it though. Time will tell.
Edit: "Sometimes" is perfect, I'm bugging. |
