3.5 great
Alestorm Black Sails at Midnight
Although gimmicky, I still found this album to be a very fun and enjoyable listen

Hilltop Hoods The Hard Road
M-Phazes Good Gracious
Mastodon The Hunter

3.0 good
All That Remains Overcome
As the album that really started getting me into the "heavier" side of metal, in my opinion I'd say that this album is pretty good. It has enough of the clean vocals to satisfy someone used to listening to hard rock, and enough of the normal metal vocals to satisfy long term metal fans. The guitar solos are also highly enjoyable, and the drums are lightning fast. My two main problems with this album are that a) almost all the songs sound quite commercialized and radio friendly and b) All That Remains couldn't quite pull off the slower, rock-style ballads.
Children of Bodom Skeletons in the Closet
I found this to be a very interesting and different metal album, as there really aren't many metal "cover" albums out there. The covers of "Oops I Did it Again" and "Looking Out My Backdoor" were definitely the best racks by far, as they were the songs that deviated the most from the standard metal sound. There were, however, many mediocre songs that unless your a big fan of the original, you won't get much enjoyment out of them. Overall, it was a good and interesting album that was definitely very different from Children of Bodom's other works
Hilltop Hoods State of the Art
Machine Head The Blackening
Mastodon Blood Mountain
The National Boxer
Maybe its just me, but I found that every song on this album sounded pretty much the same. If you like one, you'll like them all, but it gets pretty boring after a while. Although they can create a great atmosphere and make some pretty decent songs, that's all they can do. At most, this is a "decent" album, and is way too overhyped by the critiques
Urthboy The Signal

2.5 average
Bliss N Eso The Arrival
Hilltop Hoods The Calling

2.0 poor
Hilltop Hoods Left Foot, Right Foot
Muse The Resistance
Aside from the occasional hit tracks, there were way too many filler songs that just detracted from the album instead of adding to it. They should have just made it into an EP instead
Star One Victims of the Modern Age
This HAS to be the cheesiest and most generic power metal album I've ever listened to. Just because artist decided to set it in space instead of some fantasy realm doesn't make it any more original. You can expect pretty much the same "epic" guitar riffs and subjects as any other cookie cutter power metal album out there
