The original MotM will be remembered as a classic because Cudi did something genuinely new - his fusion of a psychedelic
soundscape, melodic hums, indie and alternative rock samples, with his raw emotion was a beautiful and fresh take on hip-
hop. Instead of pushing the genre forward, Cudi hops on current trends for the first half of MotM 3, and leans too heavily
into ad-libs and autotune to create a watered down, single ready, version of himself. The album picks up in the second half
and taps into the magic from over a decade ago with songs like The Void, The Pale Moonlight, and Lovin' Me but it's not
enough to elevate the album to level of his earlier projects. |
