Super hit and miss - worth a listen just to find the gems. Baths fans won't be disappointed by the gorgeous, sweeping pop songs that make up the first half of the album. the second half is a different beast, with overwhelmingly harsh beats and unfollowable vocal 'melodies' on stupor and flux and beatboxing that's so thick with spit (the vapors) it's almost disgusting to listen to.r

The Flaming Lips The Terror
"The worst pair of opposites is boredom and terror." - Yann Martel
Boring. Boring boring boring. That was my first grand impression of The Terror. Where were
the drums on floaty beauties Be Free, A Way and Try to Explain that would turn them into
Yoshimi pop-songs? Where were the grand Embryonic freakouts amidst the Powerless-esque
pound-and-draggers You Lust and Look...? The Terror simply offers very little to hold on to
- hooks are few and far between. It's certain that atmospheric cohesion and experimentation
make The Terror a decent album. But on this record, the Flips might have lost the
songwriting variety and pop instinct that made their classic albums, well, classic.
EDIT: Boring. Not terrifying. The Terror is that dull terror of knowing death and
pointlessness are around the corner. And yes, you can make a pointless album about
pointlessness that is pointless to listen to but that doesn't make it a good album. The
Terror focuses too much on dull terror and misses the energy that makes its topic
interesting.
The Seer is terrifying. Death Grips is terrifying. Aphex Twin is terrifying. parts of
Embryonic were terrifying. This is not terrifying. This is boring.
tl;dr dull unimpressive album go listen to embryonic instead. pretty though unremarkable
ballads w/ nice textures at tracks 2+3
