The second LP he does here, although held together by songs left out from his first album, hold up even better than his debut. There is a much wider display of emotions at work here, and the album feels more personal. The piano work on here is nothing short of haunting, and it's actually going to tug your heart, when you hear songs like "Ecubyan" or "Gone Tomorrow." So much potential, and this album almost spells out Jobriath's thoughts, as though he knew that the end was coming, before the beginning started. Unfortunately this is his last formal album, until the compilation 'Lonely Planet Boy'. rThere are very few rare recordings out there, and they are becoming extremely hard to trace down. I'm a second-generation fan, and found Jobriath's music in high school. I became somewhat of a super-fan, and I'm pretty loyal to any new material I find, pertaining to this man. rI highly encourage anyone to attend your local independent movie theater, as a full-length documentary on Jobriath is about to make it's international debut in the UK at the end of March. I hope that 'Jobriath A.D.' will raise positive feedback and appreciation for this amazing artist, and potentially fill the gap from the societal fringe, in which he was abandoned.New York Dolls New York DollsPink Floyd The Piper At The Gates Of DawnPink Floyd Relics4.5 superbDuran Duran Rio4.0 excellentHanoi Rocks Two Steps from the MoveNew York Dolls Too Much Too Soon3.5 greatPink Floyd The Dark Side Of The Moon2.5 averageAdam Lambert For Your EntertainmentI had hopes that were above and beyond anything that had ever graced American Idol when I first saw/heard Adam. He's got a great voice, and he has an interesting throwback to the old glam aesthetic. If he weren't trying to sound too much like Lady Gaga/Madonna, I may have given this debut album a higher rating. Obviously his song-writing abilities are very limited, since he often collaborates and copies lyrical styles that are old hat. He's just a little too steeped in the silly techno party field, and I honestly think he could branch out and at least front a band (there has been some talk about him filling Freddie Mercury's role in Queen, and while I know he won't be able to capture everything that made Queen shine, it could be a few steps above Paul Rodgers.)rThis album is pretty passe for me personally, but there are some glimmers of hope (albeit pretty small ones.) The songs that have recieved radio play are at least catchy and showcase his rock operatic vocal personality (ie. the title track, Whataya Want From Me, and If I Had You.) My favorite song is probably "Pick U Up' (co-written with Weezer's Rivers Cuomo,) which sounds almost like something Muse could do. rIn don't think I'll have any issues with Adam performing alongside Queen, but if he makes another album, I'm not expecting anything special. 1.5 very poorLady Gaga The FameNot even worth it. I like the music videos better, actually..the music means nothing to me. Lady Gaga is just a visual artist, and should leave music alone. I do enjoy 'Born this Way' a bit more, but even there I find a lot of cliches from veteran artists. All these little monsters can argue with me, but I honestly don't care. The concept of what is called "stealing" in the music industry is no secret, but artists like David Bowie and Freddie Mercury coin this term loosely and have taken a very small facets of musical styles to create something unique. I don't see anything unique about Gaga--she's butchered the Metropolis themes from Queen's Radio Ga Ga video, acts as if David Bowie never existed (ie. see the Aladdin Sane lightning bolt on her face), and perpetrated crimes against Dale Bozzio (most notably the cover of Spring Session M--the Missing Persons album.) rIf she's gonna be paying tribute to these singers/bands of the past, why can't she just admit it, and stop passing herself off as THE first. I guess she just isn't my cup of tea. I would rather see her in a tribute band.
