I have gone back to this album many more times than I expected to. This is truly something different. They very much accomplish the journey through time and space they set out to deliver.

August Burns Red Rescue & Restore

Carcass Necroticism: Descanting the Insalubrious
Carcass Surgical Steel
Cattle Decapitation Monolith of Inhumanity
This album is just amazing. It is Cattle Decapitation taken to the next level. It has elements from all of their previous work, but formed into a more focused and sharpened attack.

Early contender for Best Death Metal album of 2012. It's like the bastard child of a three-way among Origin, Hate Eternal, and "None So Vile"-era Cryptopsy.
DevilDriver Winter Kills
Dismember Like an Ever Flowing Stream
Earthside A Dream In Static
East of the Wall The Apologist
Enabler All Hail the Void

This album kept growing on me. Their song-writing and blend of melodic doom and ambient space is top-notch and deserves way more recognition.
Every Time I Die Ex Lives
Every Time I Die From Parts Unknown
Everything in Slow Motion Phoenix
Fallujah Nomadic
Fallujah The Flesh Prevails
Goatwhore Constricting Rage of the Merciless
This is arguably their best work to date. Keeping their signature sound, it takes the hooks from "Carving...", expands on the diversity from "Blood for the Master" making (IMO) their most memorable album.

Soilwork The Ride Majestic
Sophicide Perdition of the Sublime

I dare you to find anything that can make your jaw drop like this. Not only can they platy their instruments better than any of their peers, they no how to compose the songs into something more than just their members showing off.

3 Inches of Blood Long Live Heavy Metal
This is 3 Inches of Blood fully realized; it's the album that they have wanted to make from the beginning. It has better written songs and stronger musicianship than most of their back catalog (which is not bad at all, btw), and they keep all of their signature cheese intact.

Definitely their most focused and cohesive album yet. I think this is what they were trying to do on the last album, though they didn't quite make it.

This was the first CC album to "wow" me, and it still does. Now having "A Skeletal Domain," I think this album is stronger and still has that "wow" factor that I feel "Domain" is missing.

I feel it had all (or at least most) of the technical skill from Ob(servant) but with more a focus on the song writing. there is a definitely groove on the album, which makes it more memorable. Also, I feel there is a nice variation in the vocals, offering something a little different than some of their peers. This is definitely their most dynamic album to date, and I can understand where some people are a little turned off, but this was a welcome change of pace from the standard tech-death of late.

TesseracT Perspective
The musician, as shown before, is excellent, and some of the writing really gets to shine through on the acoustic versions. However, if the point of the EP was to show off their new vocalist, they should have either just written new songs, or done with they did on "Eden 2.0" and have Elliot redo the vocals tracks. This EP showed us he can sing cleanly and (almost too) pretty on soft songs, but it does not show how it will sound on heavier music, and it does not show if he can handle harsh vocals.

This is indeed an OSDM album, and they have the feel and sound, but the vocals kill it for me. Specifically, it is the constant echo on them. They don't sound lo-fi, and it's not a reverb...it's an echo. The mix could be stronger too w/o losing that old-school sound.

I, the Breather Truth and Purpose
While they have some good riffs and hint at being able to write something great (see "Lunar), they give to the pitfalls of this style: breakdowns. I like me some breakdowns, but if they used those to accent the music and made the songs around those good riffs, as opposed to making the riffs background to the bass drops and breakdowns, they could be so much better. rAlso, while the vocals aren't bad, they aren't great either. This guy can be interchanged with numerous other same-sounding vocalists out there already.
In Flames A Sense of Purpose
Into Eternity The Incurable Tragedy
Killswitch Engage Incarnate
Krisiun Forged in Fury
Kylesa Ultraviolet
Most of these songs are pretty poorly written, with not real flow to them. This is exemplified by the fact that they all just end somewhat abruptly; they just jam for 3+ plus minutes and stop. Gets old.
Lacuna Coil Broken Crown Halo
Lacuna Coil Delirium
Andrea finally learned he should not sing, and improved his screams. Meanwhile, Christina's singing has gotten worse. When she goes for the high notes (see "Blood, Tears, Dust"), her tone is awful. And whatever she is doing to her voice on the title track (for example) seriously lacks the beauty her voice once had. Musically, the band tuned their instruments like a djent band and play music of a nu-metal band for their heavy songs. rThat all said, many of the songs on this album are far more memorable than anything on Broken Crown Halo. Songs like "Downfall" are where the band really shines...but there aren't enough songs like that.

I don't hear anything remotely unique here. The song writing is mediocre, and 6 minutes of "Greenland" come off as useless noise instead of the (presumably intended) atmospheric.

The Post-Metal, Sludge, and other Metal styles of Metal mixed with Black Metal are what made this band unique and awesome. This album, however, largely forgoes mixing the other styles to give us a pretty average, simplistic BM album. This was disappointing.
Upon a Burning Body Red. White. Green.
I like the energy, and the brekdowns are entertaininbg...before they get old toward the end. And the lyrics? They are kinda like a cheesy b-movie: so bad, they are entertaining.I was actually laughing out loud at some of them, but I can't imagine it was their intent.
Veil of Maya Matriarch
Whitechapel Recorrupted

2.0 poor
Aborted Slaughter & Apparatus: A Methodical Overture
Aborted Strychnine.213
Agalloch The Serpent and the Sphere
All That Remains A War You Cannot Win
Betraying the Martyrs Phantom
Caliban Ghost Empire
My, how they have fallen. This might actually be worse than "Say Hello to Tragedy." Terrible album showing an uninspired band that wrote an album based on what is trendy right now. Extremely disappointing.
Emmure Slave to the Game
Gigan Multi-Dimensional Fractal-Sorcery...
While these guys clearly excel at their instruments, playing fast and technical, their song writing is poor. I understand being "progressive," spastic, etc., but there needs to be something besides a mash-up of pieces with very little flow. Also, the production/mixing does not do this album any favors. There is NO excuse for an album to sound like this in 2013.
Ill Nino Till Death, La Familia
It Dies Today Lividity
Metallica St. Anger
Neaera Ours Is The Storm
This is the same album Neaera has been putting out since their inception, only they seem to be running out of ways to write the same song over, so it is more boring than, say, Armamentarium.
Nightrage A New Disease Is Born
Pyrrhon The Mother of Virtues
Ready Set Fall! Memento
Reflections The Color Clear
Shadows Fall Threads of Life
Six Feet Under Undead
The music is a step up from...well anything the band has ever done. However, Barnes has got to be the worst death metal vocalist around. He just doesn't sound like he cares! He has the most tired and bored...not to mention monotonous...grunts and growls, and it absolutely ruins whatever music is behind
Slayer Repentless
Spineshank Anger Denial Acceptance
SSS Limp.Gasp. Collapse
Structures Divided By
The Human Abstract Midheaven
The Last Ten Seconds of Life Soulless Hymns
Soulless Hymns - not just a clever title...rWhile they did manage to make it sound heavy, the music is boring as hell. Listening to a song or two on a playlist is fine, but an entire album is very taxing to listen to. Even a dash of creativity would go a long way here.
Walls of Jericho No One Can Save You From Yourself
White Arms of Athena White Arms of Athena
Whitechapel The Somatic Defilement
Winds of Plague Resistance

1.5 very poor
Deadlock The Arsonist
KEN mode Success
Maylene and the Sons of Disaster IV
Mushroomhead Savior Sorrow

1.0 awful
Morbid Angel Illud Divinum Insanus - The Remixes
