I feel it had all (or at least most) of the technical skill from Ob(servant) but with more a focus on the song writing. there is a definitely groove on the album, which makes it more memorable. Also, I feel there is a nice variation in the vocals, offering something a little different than some of their peers. This is definitely their most dynamic album to date, and I can understand where some people are a little turned off, but this was a welcome change of pace from the standard tech-death of late.

The musician, as shown before, is excellent, and some of the writing really gets to shine through on the acoustic versions. However, if the point of the EP was to show off their new vocalist, they should have either just written new songs, or done with they did on "Eden 2.0" and have Elliot redo the vocals tracks. This EP showed us he can sing cleanly and (almost too) pretty on soft songs, but it does not show how it will sound on heavier music, and it does not show if he can handle harsh vocals.

This is indeed an OSDM album, and they have the feel and sound, but the vocals kill it for me. Specifically, it is the constant echo on them. They don't sound lo-fi, and it's not a reverb...it's an echo. The mix could be stronger too w/o losing that old-school sound.

I, the Breather Truth and Purpose
While they have some good riffs and hint at being able to write something great (see "Lunar), they give to the pitfalls of this style: breakdowns. I like me some breakdowns, but if they used those to accent the music and made the songs around those good riffs, as opposed to making the riffs background to the bass drops and breakdowns, they could be so much better. rAlso, while the vocals aren't bad, they aren't great either. This guy can be interchanged with numerous other same-sounding vocalists out there already.
In Flames A Sense of Purpose
Into Eternity The Incurable Tragedy
Killswitch Engage Incarnate
Krisiun Forged in Fury
Kylesa Ultraviolet
Most of these songs are pretty poorly written, with not real flow to them. This is exemplified by the fact that they all just end somewhat abruptly; they just jam for 3+ plus minutes and stop. Gets old.
Lacuna Coil Broken Crown Halo
Lacuna Coil Delirium
Andrea finally learned he should not sing, and improved his screams. Meanwhile, Christina's singing has gotten worse. When she goes for the high notes (see "Blood, Tears, Dust"), her tone is awful. And whatever she is doing to her voice on the title track (for example) seriously lacks the beauty her voice once had. Musically, the band tuned their instruments like a djent band and play music of a nu-metal band for their heavy songs. rThat all said, many of the songs on this album are far more memorable than anything on Broken Crown Halo. Songs like "Downfall" are where the band really shines...but there aren't enough songs like that.

The Haunted Versus
Throwdown Intolerance
Tombs Savage Gold
The Post-Metal, Sludge, and other Metal styles of Metal mixed with Black Metal are what made this band unique and awesome. This album, however, largely forgoes mixing the other styles to give us a pretty average, simplistic BM album. This was disappointing.
Upon a Burning Body Red. White. Green.
I like the energy, and the brekdowns are entertaininbg...before they get old toward the end. And the lyrics? They are kinda like a cheesy b-movie: so bad, they are entertaining.I was actually laughing out loud at some of them, but I can't imagine it was their intent.

Emmure Slave To The Game
Gigan Multi-Dimensional Fractal-Sorcery...
While these guys clearly excel at their instruments, playing fast and technical, their song writing is poor. I understand being "progressive," spastic, etc., but there needs to be something besides a mash-up of pieces with very little flow. Also, the production/mixing does not do this album any favors. There is NO excuse for an album to sound like this in 2013.
