Look.when i first heard it i was i bit dissapointed.I mean,black tongue was awesome song,classic mastodon(if there's such a thing) with heavy epic riff and good vocals.the curl of the burl was quite different but good.Spectrelight gave me goosebumps.straight from leviathan kinda song.heavy fast and with crazy changes!!!But when it came out it quite troubled me!!!octupus,thickening,beddazled,creature lives were pretty strange songs.i love 'em now all except octupus.this song should be replaced by the ruiner!! The production is top class but what did you expect?i mean,only metallica and slayer have failed production wise.While most of the songs have the basic song structure it is a really "headphones needed" album.Between the verses great things are happening in the music section.The keyboards have added a lot and they really lift the songs.Especially bedazzled fingernails and stargasm.Especially the latest one has a magic feeling and a similarity to seabest and sleeping giant only it's a bit faster and heavier,strange thing if you consider that the album is much mellower from blood mountain or leviathan. The chorus section of the songs one of the strongest cards of the Hunter.They fit great for sing along at gigs(or in your rooms).All the heavy lifting in particular has a really emotional chorus. The vocals are really worked and at times is really hard to tell who is singing what.That's gonna be a problem when these songs are being played live. But there are 3 big questions. WHY no1???The ruiner is among the top5 songs of the hunter along with stargasm,hunter,beddazled,spectrelight.It's heavy,epic,with big chorus.i mean why???This should be replaced with octopus which has similar structure with dry bone valley,all the heavy lifting etc. i put it between dry bone valley and thickening in my playlist. WHY no2???What's with the artwork.The limited edition(which i bought) has really nice artwork.the standard artwork is lame.red and the ***ing mule or whatever! WHY no3???6 minutes making of plus 18 track by track?really?thank you!!!thanks for being soooo generous!!blood mountain and crack the skye making of were big with a lot of details and stuff.especially crack was great.now all we see is dailor talking jokes for the songs!!and six minutes?i mean...commercial clip?sad. Well except these 3 why's the album is great and the maintain a really rare thing for today's bands.You might prefer one album over another.But while mainting the basic feel of mastodon,each song is quite different and unique.That's a rare and hard thing for a band to accomplish.Just check out how many "sequels" come out every year.Mastodon Crack the Skye
