After 29 years of listening to this album, I gotta bump it up to a 5. I don't know what happened, but this weekend, I was having DeathFest 2022 (an event which happened in my head, and it was HUUUUUUUGE!) and its perfection finally revealed itself to me.rI've given 5's to 43% of this band's studio discography, which is crazy to think about. Such a high level of quality here. Chuck was a genius, and it's too bad he's not here to be held up as an elder statesman of metal. |

This album is CLASSIC! I used to listen to this with a couple of my friends in high school (86-90; we were all rockers and
metalhead who were known to listen to a full range of music) who appreciated the blues and some country. While listening
to this, you can easily see a country band as a
jam band...you'd think there's some shared DNA with the Allman Bros. Band. Great performances all around on this. The
band is loose but locked-in: you can just feel the band enjoying themselves but ready for anything at a second's notice.
"Whiskey River" played twice? Don't mind at all! Highlights are "Whiskey River" (both times, with the first time being the
superior of the two), "Mamas, Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys", the "Red Headed Stranger" medley, "Bloody
Mary Morning", and "Uncloudy Day".r |

Master pianist Bill Evans delivers an album of great beauty. One of his best.
Craft Recordings remastered version of this album (2022) was just released and it sounds excellent. They did a
fantastic job and took great care with this one.
Here’s my version of the Bill Evans classic “Time Remembered”: https://soundcloud.com/metal-marc/time-

Bill Evans At The Montreux Jazz Festival |
Bill Evans, Eddie Gomez, and Jack DeJohnette kill it here. Jack DeJ?s drumming is always top-notch and really moves this album along. |
Bill Evans The Tokyo Concert |
This is essential Evans. Apparently, Bill and Co. changed up their setlist for the Japanese tour. There are several
songs here which don’t appear on any other Bill Evans albums. Most notably, their version of Bobbie Gentry’s
Mornin’ Glory” is a gorgeous, wandering stroll which takes me somewhere else every time...it is mellow
joyfulness, if that makes any sense. Bill’s solo reading of Steve Swallow’s “Hullo Bolinas” and the closer “On
Green Dolphin Street” are two other highlights on a highlight-filled album. |

Two similar set lists but it’s not the same thing on two different albums. Live In L.A. is
the best sounding of the two and the songs are a smidge faster, but they're never out of
control. Live In Eindhoven was a festival show. The audio is still great and the tempos are
tamer, but that doesn’t make it feel or sound sterile...it sounds hyper-focused with the
intent to destroy their audience.
Good to hear “Zombie Ritual”. Highlights are
1. “The Philosopher” (both sets) - I love the guitar/bass solo trade-offs at the end.
2. “Pull The Plug” (LA)
3. “Together As One” (Eindhoven) |

Jazz. Electronica. Rush. Biblical excerpts. Periphery. Becca Stevens. A boy’s choir solo voice. Chris Thile. Gentle
Giant. A mandolin. Lots of synths. The back half of “Starship Trooper”.
It took about 10 or so listens over the last month, but this very, very creative follow-up to his Grammy-winning
Finding Gabriel is clicking with me; however, I am not sure how much I like it. So many thoughts...so hard to
put into words.

Death Non:analog - On:stage Series - Montreal |
I love Symbolic, so naturally, I love this show. The boys were hot, and the crowd was pretty
wild. "Spiritual Healing" is a great opener. The furthest they go back in the discography is
"Pull The Plug", but other than these two tracks, everything else is from Human onward. The
end of "The Philosopher" is a bit of a letdown because the guitar and bass don't trade off
solos; however, Chuck and Bobby Koelble trade guitar solos instead, and that's pretty cool.
Despite that personal complaint, Death puts on a spirited performance and the show is great.
Of this entire Non:Analog... series, this one has the best sound quality. It's an audience
recording, which means that there was some dude in the room with a nice recorder and a small,
good-quality mic. I own enough bootlegs to know that this guy was probably at the back of the
room in the center, perhaps in a balcony or a loge. |

Jimi’s in top form here. Buddy (drums) and Billy (bass) are always in the pocket, providing a near-perfect bed of
rhythm for their boss.
Set 1 is great, but feels somewhat tentative. Sets 2-4 are where the real action’s at! |

Excellent black metal from the Northwestern part of my world. I love the atmosphere and feel. Like most BM, it
can be repetitive, but Old Graves never lingers too long for a part to wear out its welcome. I?d rate it higher if the
vocals were a bit higher in the mix (and if I had the lyrics,as well). Definitely worth it...4.25 out of 5

I'm so glad that this set exists! So many of their B-sides are better than a lot of artists' A-sides. All the discs are great, but discs 1 (the old-school classics found on the cassette version of 'Staring At The Sea') and 3 are essential. |

Fast facts & randumb thoughts:
- Eric Wagner - vocals; Lothar Keller - guitar; Matt Goldsborough - guitar; Ron Holzner - bass guitar; Jeff "Oly"
Olson - drums; Eric, Ron, and Jeff are former members of Trouble, Matt is ex-Pentagram, and Lothar is currently
in Sacred Dawn.
- This album is produced by Billy Anderson, who has produced and/or engineered Black Cobra, Sleep, High On
Fire, Om, and many other metal bands.
- This album is chock-full of old-school, traditional doom. Sure, it's 3/5 of the classic Trouble lineup, so it sounds
like old-school Trouble. However, it's not a blatant rehash of old material, i.e. the band probably didn't say, "We
should write a song like "Bastards Will Pay". The songs are great and the production is excellent! Billy Anderson
did a fantastic job. Everything is right where it should be and sounds like it should sound. |
