For this album has quite nonstandard quality in its production that some black metal bands are lacking. Another difference to note of this from the last is the slightly raised technicality in riffs. The drums can be heard slightly better, but who can possibly conceive all of those blasted notes anyway? Nay, nobody. Those drums are inhuman, it seems. But the realization that they are indeed human makes it more impressive all the more.1349 HellfireThough "Beyond the Apocalypse" was my personal favorite, this is the best in terms of quality, technicality, drums, and vocals. It is like a path, a path that the young explorers of black metal must take reference to. But though you can stray away from the path and head towards symphonic, progressive, folk, or death tenanted styles of black metal, the road shall always be there for black metal musicians to follow. Still, like all black metal albums repetition is a foe, but this time repetition seems to not be an issue, for each song seems different in the atmosphere of it, not in the melodies maybe, but the vibe nevertheless.Ensiferum EnsiferumSuch a perfect blend of folk and metal, and there is not better place to get either into Ensiferum, or folk metal than this. 3.5 great1349 LiberationThis album is fast, high pitched, and the drumming in itself is actually entertaining. Although I do think that the next two releases by 1349 have better riffs, this is probably the fastest one. So if you are in to straight forward, second wave, fast, screeching vocals, fast drumming, violent guitars, and just plain black metal, you would definitely like this album. One must take into account, though, the usual-with-black-metal repetition of songs. 2.5 average1349 Revelations of the Black FlameThe band goes to a more boring style of melancholy synth infested playing. There is still some black metal, but it is very useless, and I find no pleasure upon its hearing.
