Presumably people are expecting far more from this band than their mission statement declared. Does what it says on the tin to a high quality, full of hooks with subtle nods towards different aspects of the punk genre such as ska punk. A staple in the new wave pop punk landscape

Handguns Disenchanted
Handguns have come through with an unexpectedly impressive & fun record, which neatly stands
above last year's mildly lacklustre Life Lessons. Where Life Lessons was a somewhat tepid
album that signified a band figuring out where to take themselves, Disenchanted radiates
with a confident self-awareness of the band's sound.
Mixing a level of growth and maturity with the equally appropriate measure of immaturity,
while cheesy at times, Disenchanted hearkens to the earlier stages of contemporary new-wave
pop punk band's careers. Sound clips such as on opener "Self Portrait" and shorter punk
interval "Carbon Copy Elitist" pay homage to the enjoyably cliched ethos of early 2000s pop
punk bands, while melodic riffs such as that of "Bury Me" and "Missed Calls" resonate with
the playful growth that the band perhaps took a little too sincerely on Life Lessons.
Alongside the typically infectious hooks that Handguns are deft at producing, Disenchanted
remains notable beyond the catchy melodies with the realist approach to lyrics, displayed
particularly on "The Worst in Me" - thereby separating Handguns from other less lyrically
substance-enamoured bands such as contemporaries Real Friends, or Man Overboard.
A staple in fun new-wave pop punk, Handguns play purely on their convention-adhering
strengths with 2015's light-hearted yet stylistically rich instalment Disenchanted.

Real Friends Three Songs About the Past Year of My Life
Chicago's response to The Wonder Years. If TWY came from Illinois then they would be called Real Friends; this band has blown up over the last few months and they just keep getting better. Their latest EP, although only offering 3 new tracks, shows flawless consistency in quality. Incredibly excited to see what Real Friends do with a debut album; expect it to be up there with the genre's greatests - Under Soil and Dirt, Suburbia, Floral Green, etc. The new landscape pop punk scene is looking strong right now and Real Friends are already a staple in it.

Real Friends More Acoustic Songs
Save Your Breath Recover
Completely blown away by this EP. Their debut, 'Vices', was a lot of fun, but this year's follow up 'Recover' is absolutely fantastic; displays a good grasp of catchy pop punk State Champs style with a hint of Real Friends, layered with the style of more recent Transit. Save Your Breath prove they can stick to their classic sound while moving forward and progressing with their music. 2011's 'Vices' may have slipped under the radar a little but if quality is anything to still go by, then Save Your Breath are going to face a bright future following this year's 'Recover'.

Save Your Breath There Used To Be A Place For Us
Huge step up from SYB's roots, in a maturer and stronger vein than Recover. Realist approach to lyrics and a sharper sound than previous work

Transit Joyride
Trophy Eyes Everything Goes Away
You, Me, And Everyone We Know A Great Big Hole
I've always thought that with midway EP's in a band's career, less is more. These 3 tracks do not amount to much when considered on the whole, but my previous statement rings true when considering each of these tracks individually. Ben Liebsch is pushing through all the hardships his band has suffered and while he may be coming up short, he proves herein that he's still coming out on top nonetheless. YM&EWK continue to be the flagship to the 'pop' side of pop punk and the positivity found in the lyrics are something crucial to music in general; therefore, this short EP is in a roundabout way rather superb.

Knuckle Puck Don't Come Home
Good pals of Real Friends, and that statement speaks for itself. Illinois pop punk/emo is looking good right now; expect big things from these guys in the future.
Knuckle Puck The Weight That You Buried
Really good contemporary pop punk form, 'No Good' is the highlight from this EP. Sounds a lot like USAD The Story So Far/61 Penn Crucial Dudes with the writing of The Wonder Years, and a New Found Glory-esque hook. Nothing boundary breaking, but a promising shape-up for Knuckle Puck's future
Major League Hard Feelings
Massive step up for these boys. 2012 has had a lot of strong pop punk releases and Major League's Hard Feelings is no exception. Touches of classic pop punk a la New Found Glory while incorporating the freshness of the new wave akin to Handguns and Man Overboard. Not one to miss.

A Loss For Words Before It Caves
As a standalone pop punk album it's exactly what you would expect from the genre, plus a little extra. However, in comparison to the band's previous albums, this leaves a little to be desired; a lot of the raw energy is gone and Before It Caves is a record consequently left with a lot of catchy poppy hooks, but not much punk. While The Kids Can't Lose was a very sharp and aggressive sounding album, No Sanctuary actually ventured more into the territory of alt. rock and was all the more impressive for it - the hardcore-esque title track being of particular commendation. It would seem that A Loss for Words have decided to play it safe and take a step back with Before It Caves, using a tried-and-tested formula for a cohesive pop punk album, instead of bravely traversing a more experimental and polarised construction to their music. As a lead, Matty Arsenault has so much more to bring to this band (see his Class of '92 side project alone), and it would seem apparent that the direction this band goes next with their sound could well seal the fate of their career together.
Various Artists (Punk) Punk Goes Pop 4
Various Artists (Punk) Punk Goes Pop 5
Another Punk Goes Pop album that really isn't as bad as some people would have you believe. Asides from the usual few unknown metalcore bands destined to remain that way, this is actually one of the better Punk Goes Pop albums (which isn't too hard) with some good covers.
