Aphex Twin Selected Ambient Works 85-92
to this day, this album is the only one i own that puts me into a state of bliss every time it begins. plain and simple, this is masterfully composed and produced electronica, and i feel the best album ever in the genre. that being said, this is essential listening for anyone interested in music, regardless of genre.
Cloudkicker Beacons
this album is simply gorgeous from top to bottom. the definitive instrumental prog metal rrelease. no other cloudkicker release comes anywhere near this quality as a whole, runfortunately, although let yourself be huge has moments that are just as great.

Fall Out Boy Take This to Your Grave
Fatal FE Transfornation
no electronic-hardcore band has since, or will ever, be able to pull this off again, not reven FE themselves. this album may not be overly technical or revolutionary, but it rrepresents the very peak of what "trancecore" is capable of. i would argue that the rcomposition of the songs is worth noting as being the primary reason this is so great, but ri'm not sure if the producer or a particular member of the band is responsible for fine rtuning it so well.rtl;drrthis is one of the most fun and enjoyable albums i've ever heard. simple as that.

Architects Lost Forever // Lost Together
the production is easily the best the band's had in their discography and it gives a great, spacey atmosphere to the album. aside from the overly frequent breakdowns, there are some catchy and memorable riffs(see Broken Cross and Gravedigger), and Carter's vocals are consistently competent, if not a little grating after extended periods. while there isn't a ton of variety between tracks, the album as a whole is a worthwhile and fun listen all throughout. Hollow Crown this is not, but it stands on its own as the most well put together Architects release since said LP and is well worth a listen. Blegh.

Gerard Way Hesitant Alien
There's some serious potential here, but most of the album falls just short of greatness, due to inconsistency. There's too much genre hopping, making the fact that Way hasn't found his style yet painfully obvious. That being said, the album is quite fun throughout, and tracks like Brother and No Shows prove that Way is capable of pulling off admirable solo work. The former, in particular, is considerably well-put together, and has a tone and energy that make Way sound more alive than he has in years. The solid production also helps the album sound more distinct and interesting, through the use of ambient effects and distortion included in many of the tracks. Overall, while the album has plenty of fun moments, Way's inexperience as a solo artist is often too apparent.

this doesn't sound as much like mid-2000's metalcore as a lot of people are claiming, since it has clear influences from newer bands in their scene (Bring Me the Horizon and The Amity Affliction, namely. especially the latter). the melodies are fantastic and the vocals are great. i knew almost nothing of the band before checking this out, but i'm impressed.

their first album was MUCH better. this one drags much more, Spencer's vocals are less
impressive(his growls sound like the dude from Abandon All Ships now), and there just isn't

moments, but not many entire songs that are done completely right(Ragnarok is a strong

The Amity Affliction Let the Ocean Take Me
the lyrics here are often too on the nose and personal for their own good, and the angst has been turned up to 11. luckily, the vocal duties have been returned to a 50/50 split, preventing the cleans from getting too monotonous, like they did on Chasing Ghosts. Nevertheless, the album doesn't have as many catchy and immediately memorable tracks as either of their last two LPs, making the songs run together some. still, the album features a worthy set of songs all throughout, which all feature superior production to the band's last two efforts. it's more of a grower than Youngbloods or Chasing Ghosts, but if a more polished and gloomier than usual TAA sounds like a good time, check it out.

wow. i've been a fan of these guys since I first discovered them, but damn is this better rthan i expected. the album's sound is significantly more mature than any of their previous rwork, jeremy depoyster's vocals are vastly improved, and the production quality's off the rcharts(the subtle, ambient electronics throughout are fantastic). i can't imagine the band rgetting any better at this point, but a guy can dream.

this is fun and, along with Oceania, still much better than anything else TSP have put out since Adore, but it lacks its own personality and voice. where Oceania had a very distinctive feel and theme throughout, the tracks here feel more disjointed and forced together. Monuments to an Elegy comes off as more of a mixtape/EP than a full on LP, which makes it a worthwhile, but underwhelming listen.

The album is consistently "okay." ISS never quite reaches their potential with this new and, frankly, very likable shift in style. Say Anything Anarchy, My Dear
Way too many acoustic sounding tracks, for my taste. This might as well be a Max Bemis solo album, most of the time. Overall okay, nonetheless. Nowhere near as good as their previous three albums, but the solid lyrics make up for its mediocre aspects and lack of energy some of the time. Most of the songs are still forgettable, despite the good lyrics though. Also, it doesn't sound like ...Is a Real Boy in the slightest.

Starbomb Starbomb
this is just a much worse NSP album, with video games and, unfortunately, Egoraptor. Danny's vocals are great, as usual, but the lyrics he delivers just aren't anywhere near up to par with his NSP stuff. the lyrics are weak and are riddled with pointless "shits" and "fucks" that exist only to fill time. that being said, his vocal performance on tracks like The Book of Nook and Ryu vs. Ken highlight how great he's capable of sounding, in spite of the lyrics performed. Egoraptor, aka Arin Hanson, is the primary cause of this album's all-too-frequent flaws. not only is rap already overdone for parody music, but Hanson often makes it much more painful than it has to be, by adding in a huge number of "fucks" to fill time and being way too over-the-top with his delivery. that being said, his flow on Ryu vs. Ken, especially in the second verse, is a definite highlight on the album, but moments like that are few and far between for him. the clear standout performance here is Ninja Brian's, though. his fantastic compositions, which are more electronic than on NSP to suit the video game theme, never disappoint. from Regretroid, to I Choose You to Die, to Ryu vs. Ken, his exceptional synth work alone makes this album worth sitting through. so, there you go. a serious review of a Game Grumps album. check out Ninja Sex Party, if you want great comedy music, because this doesn't compare in the slightest, even with Danny and Brian lending their talents.

Allah Las Calico Review
After two very impressive, near flawless LPs, the Allah Las make their first ever misstep with this subpar, albeit generally pleasant, release. There are no particularly memorable or noteworthy tracks, and not a single instrumental to be found. The only thing really carrying the band through this short outing is their technical skill. Overall, way too laid back, to the point of being boring, but still a bit better than your average surf rock through sheer competence on behalf of the band.

The majority of the album is extremely generic and boring. Almost every track sounds indistinguishable from the last, other than the solid "the motivation" and "the wretched". If every track were as good as those two, this album would easily get at least a 3.5 from me. The fact that the two best tracks are the only ones without much chugging is no coincidence. If the band could just move past their crabcore roots and stick with the faster paced style of the aforementioned tracks, they could be taken more seriously and become much better artists.
