This album is their debut release, and shows a lot of potential in their ambient post-hardcore style. The record has some really great tracks brought together by some beautiful instrumental interludes. The ethereal quality of the guitar sound and Alex Jones’s stellar clean vocals show an obvious influence from Devil Sold His Soul, but the choruses and screamed sections dismiss any claims of being a rip-off. And those choruses are HUGE, especially on “This Kingdom”. Closer “Until The End” has a chorus that could easily be a great singalong at a live show, and for a young band this is some really solid songwriting. The choruses and songwriting are really strong and I hope to see some expansion on that when they next hit the studio. There's a lot of potential here. The album is a free release and is available at their bandcamp; http://weareatlantis.bandcamp.com/ Atlantis are playing Havering Rock Festival in London with Hadouken! on the 27th of August.Bring Me The Horizon Count Your BlessingsNOFX So Long and Thanks for All the Shoes3.5 greatArchitects The Here and NowWhen a band as balls-out heavy as Hollow Crown-era Architects says their next album "will sound like Paramore", take it with a pinch of salt. This is far removed from a pop-punk album, and is in fact reminiscent of Alexisonfire in the songwriting and riff-to-chorus ratio. Nor is it a bad album (like Paramore comparisons suggest), it's actually a very solid melodic post-hardcore album. Opener "Day In Day Out" has hooks the size of Saturn's rings and gets the party started early. It's followed by a lacklustre "Learn to Live", which, despite the Radio 1 leanings, has another huge chorus. "Delete:Rewind" and "BTN" are indications that Architects still love to play fast, pissed-off music, but the writing has evolved and improved tenfold. "An Open Letter To Myself" and "Heartburn" are the only real downsides of the album, Architects are not a ballad band and by the looks of this, they never will recapture the brilliance of the song "Hollow Crown". The guest vocals of Mr. Greg Puciato of The Dillinger Escape Plan on "Stay Young Forever" and poignant closer "Year In Year Out" are brilliant, providing a voice so associated with mathcore it keeps Architects's influences proudly on their sleeve. Personally I love this album, older Architects fans seem to really dislike it though. It seems to have expanded and alienated their fanbase all at once.3.0 goodNOFX Pump Up the Valuum2.5 averageNOFX Heavy Petting Zoo2.0 poorLower Than Atlantis World Record1.0 awfulLower Than Atlantis Punk on the Covers
