4.0 excellent
Alice in Chains Black Gives Way to Blue
Arch Enemy Doomsday Machine
Ashbury Heights Three Cheers For The Newlydeads
Circus Maximus The 1st Chapter
Cyanotic Transhuman
Transhuman is an excellent debut for Cyanotic, but is plagued by inconsistency. The album
builds into fantastic songs that are then followed up by...nothing substantial. Highlights:
"Insurgence," "Sensory Deprivation," "Beta Blocker."
Eluveitie Everything Remains As It Never Was
Fields of the Nephilim Mourning Sun
In Flames Whoracle
Istapp Blekinge
This is an excellent album. High production values may offset purists but make the melodies (which might also offset purists) come to life. This is a package of 10 tightly wound songs, although I would have started the album with Koldens, to be honest. It starts somewhat abruptly.

3.0 good
Arch Enemy Anthems of Rebellion
Arch Enemy Rise of the Tyrant
Covenant Northern Light
Some superb tracks - "Call the Ships to Port," "We Stand Alone," "We Want Revolution," but zero cohesiveness, and a lot of really awful filler. The superb tracks are classics to the fullest meaning of the word - I still get chills when I listen to "Call the Ships to Port" after having heard it hundreds of times - but the filler tracks are so awful...I don't listen to it as an album. This is the usual Covenant experience, unfortunately.

Meshuggah obZen
Naglfar Pariah
Nightwish Over The Hills And Far Away
Thousand Foot Krutch Welcome to the Masquerade
It's one of the few radio friendly rock albums I genuinely enjoy, and it just so happens to be from a Christian band. A small irony, I suppose. Tracks like "E for Extinction" and "Fire It Up" are what I'd like to hear more of on the radio. Less crap, please. That said...there are a lot of songs where the evangelizing is absolutely smothering, and that really kills a lot of the album for me. Five awesome/good/alright tracks is enough for a 3.
