Incubus have gotten even softer with their latest release "If Not Now, When?". Most of the songs sound very similar, are very boring and are just painful to listen to while imagining what the band used to be. I should point out it's not all bad, you to hear some of the band members increased musicianship, Einziger's guitar playing has improved, as has kenney's Bass playing and Boyd is singing as good as he has in previous albums, on the other hand Chris kilmore is mostly used as a piano player on this album with very little turntables being used, and Jose's drumming is painfully simple especially when you look at his amazing performances in some of Incubus' earlier records. to put it bluntly, this record is average, forgettable and annoyingly soft, the Lyrics arn't as good as earlier records either (i cringed when i heard Boyd sing the horribly cliche'd line "I once was lost, but now i'm found"). I liked the songs "Defiance", "Adolescents" and "Surface to Air" (only avalible in certain editions of the records) for what they were, but the rest of the record is Average, Forgettable and at times, annoying. i'de say skip this record and hope the band gets the message and gets back to a bit of Funk Metal. I mean, i'm all for musical evolution and i believe that you need to grow as a musician, but this is just way too far.
