5.0 classic
Hum You'd Prefer an Astronaut
The most under-appreciated band from their era, as EVERYONE loves "Stars," but the majority neglected to delve a little deeper into their catalogue. "I Hate It Too" is one of the moodiest, rainy-day tunes ever written.
Hum Downward Is Heavenward
My favorite album by my favorite band. "You'd Prefer An Astronaut" has a few more memorable songs, but I think that mainly has to do with the consistency of how well this record is orchestrated. The story behind "If You Are To Bloom" is incredibly moving, too, to match a simply beautiful song.
I Have Dreams Three Days 'Til Christmas

4.5 superb
Boys Night Out TrainWreck
I don't even really listen to anything like these guys anymore, but "Trainwreck" continues to be one on my top 10. The concept was an interesting one, and the songs are all almost irritatingly catchy. A complete album, which is hard as hell to pull off.
More Than Life Love Let Me Go
The middle ground between writhing-on-the-floor and fast, catchy hardcore. Coming from an old dude, it's tough to admit that I probably will wear this record out more than the stuff that led me to it.

4.0 excellent
Empire! Empire! (I Was a Lonely Estate) Home After Three Months Away
This release is way more crisp than anything they've done. It's also lyrically on par with everything else they've released, which is what sold me on these guys from the beginning. Honestly one of the most endearing bands to come out in the past few years.
Football, etc. Away Game 7"
Jairus The Need To Change the Mapmaker
This album was basically what Cave In aspired to be at one point, only a lot catchier. After a few listens, there's not a song on it that I would immediately skip running through it. Honestly disappointing that this band seemed to only garner a British following, as it would have done well in the time period over in the States.
More Than Life Brave Enough To Fail
There is a reason this band is jocked to hell: easily the best thing to happen to "melodic hardcore" in a decade. Awesome EP.

3.5 great
Football, etc. The Draft
I definitely think this will be in my top 5 releases of this year. It's an endearing listen, and "Incomplete" has become my favorite song by the band.
JR Ewing Maelstrom
Undeniably catchy, and one of the best things to come out of the whole "sass" period. A hardcore record that people who don't like hardcore can probably enjoy. If you think "Insect Intercourse" won't be stuck in your head for a couple of days after listening to it...

3.0 good
American Football American Football
The record deserves all of the credit it gets, as it's spawned a lot of copycats here recently. Easily my favorite Kinsella project, too, but I think my biggest complaint is that it loses steam as the album progresses. Still a good listen, though.
Fight Fair California Kicks
If you expected this to be a pop-punk record from these guys, then of course you're going to despise the album. It's campy and hokey, but it's absolutely a fun record to listen to. Plus: best dudes ever.

2.5 average
Hum Electra 2000
Listenable, but the band came into their own after this release. Easily biased opinions on this record, though, since you are going to inadvertently compare it to everything else they've done. "Winder" is a great song.
Modern Life Is War Midnight in America
It's not a bad listen, but it's pretty unremarkable. I get where they were trying to go with it, but while it's not bad, it's not very good, either.

2.0 poor
The Jonbenet Ugly/Heartless
Butt-rock and hardcore are not a good mix. While I give bonus points for the name, I don't understand what I saw in this years ago.
