Note: This is coming from the perspective of someone who has never heard any other Pain of
Salvation. You know, I really hate giving any album this low a rating, but this album... Oh
this album is just bad, especially for a band who is considered to be one of the hallmarks
of prog metal (though I know now that they aren't so much prog metal as prog rock anymore).
Don't get me wrong,
there are redeeming songs, like "Tell Me You Don't Know", which is actually a passable
bluesy song, or "Linoleum", which is a song that I actually catch myself humming to, or even
singing along to. Those tracks are actually pretty good, but I couldn't find it within
myself to enjoy any of the other tracks on this album (except maybe "Under the Stars" and
"Curiosity", though those aren't outstandingly good). I did, though, see the talent behind
this album, I especially enjoyed Daniel's vocals and Johan's guitar work. I would like to
express my deepest apologies to fans of this band, and of this album, but I just didn't
enjoy this album on the whole. |
