The majesty and atmosphere which graced the 2006 release is not here, there is no equivalent to the epic March into the Sea. What Forever Becoming is, however, is a solid release which shows that Pelican still possesses the ability to turn out good post metal in a rapidly stagnating scene.Serj Tankian HarakiriHarakiri is what Elect the Dead was aiming for musically for all intents and purposes; Ching Chime has to be one of Serj's catchiest tracks yet.3.0 goodEisbrecher EiszeitMegaherz GötterdämmerungOOMPH! Chimaira's near death experience just prior to The Age of Hell seemed to have drained them of everything which made them good. The riffs have become stale, quickly bleeding into one another with little to differentiate them. The instrumental hooks which made tracks such as Six and Salvation great are gone, replaced by a wall of sound offering no bite. Even Hunter's once biting vocals appear tired, offering nothing to make up for what has been stripped away. Although there are some good moments, album highlight Plastic Wonderland cannot salvage what is ultimately a poor and exhausted effort. The only question remaining is how long the death throes will last.Heldmaschine Weichen und ZunderSpineshank Anger Denial AcceptanceTime hasn't treated Spineshank well. Although faint elements of The Height of Callousness can be heard (see I am Damage), the melodious neo-thrash soundscape of Silent Civilian ultimately overwhelms what little industrial metal remains here. Anger Denial Acceptance just falls flat in the face of expectations.
