It took a very long time, but this record suddenly clicked with me recently, and now I can't stop
listening to it. There are flaws, namely the weak production and sometimes uninteresting
instrumentation, but the songs here are incredibly thoughtful. The lyrics are even smarter than on
Leavetaking, the hooks are sharper, and the songs are tight and well-crafted. Such a shame this
band never caught on. |

| While Sleepwalkers is certainly a good record, once the excitement of a new Fallon release wore off, it began feeling rather lackluster. It has its shining moments (Prayers, Etta James, My Name is the Night, title track) and none of it is really bad, but a lot of it is disappointingly pedestrian (Proof of Life, Neptune, See You on the Other Side immediately come to mind). It's hard to fairly rate this considering the perhaps unrealistically high expectations I have of Brian's art, but I honestly don't think anything on here really comes close to matching the finest points of his catalog from the past ten years. |
