| Well, this album has got no positive receptions from the "guru"- site allmusic.com, the Times, the NME, the rolling stone, and many other popular sites. Only the Q had given it 4 out of 5 stars and made it their album of the month, because it "requires more of your time and duly rewards it". Hopefully that doesn't mean that you have to give "Slipway Fires" time and listen to it more than once. Because at the first listening, everyone who knnows about music will wonder, what all those magazines and websites didn't like about it, why the NME called two of the highlights, "You And The Rest" and "60 Thompson" drag andwhy The Times called "Wire To Wire" the "worst song in 2008". The Recognition of Razorlight is seeable on the album, and everyone who allready liked Razorlight before, will enjoy it. "Hostage Of Love" is probably the album's most powerfull song, while you can dream to easy, but great songs like "60 Thompson". Those two songs or also "Wire To Wire", "Tabloid Lover" are songs in which you can hear that these melodies were no easy work. And the also quiet easy "You And The Rest" reminds you of a sophisticated 60s-Song. All the same, "Slipway Fires" is definitly better than most reviews say and personally for me it belongs to the best albums of 2008. |
