5.0 classic
A Perfect Circle Mer de Noms
Amazing, beautiful, haunting and emotional songs. A long time favourite
AC/DC Back In Black
It's hard to argue with the classics and albums don't come much more classic than this. Incredible.
Be'lakor Stone's Reach
At least a little reputation is usually required to receive perfect rating from me but Australian's Be'lakor have really put out an immense album at only their second attempt. I look forward to more from this band!
Bjork Vespertine
Every now and then an artist comes along who really touches you. Although Björk is vastly different to the music I usually listen to, there is no denying how amazing this album is. One of the all time greats in my opinion.
Blind Guardian A Night At The Opera
It's over the top, vast and some say too much but for me it's the ballsiest attempt at a "metal opera" ever! There's so much going on, it takes a quite a listens to take it all in but for me it never fails to please. Some say it's over produced but I'd say it has to be to be so damn good.
Carcass Heartwork
With some of the best riffs in heavy metal history, Heartwork is a must have for any metal fan of any metal persuasion.
Death The Sound of Perseverance
Mr. Schuldiner has influenced the metal community far and wide and for me it's here where the pinnacle of his talents are revealed. The song writing is some of the best I've heard. This along with the three preceding albums are some of the best metal around.
Fear Factory Demanufacture
Although not a huge fan of industrial metal, this is a band I've always made a huge exception for. Fear Factory has always been a favourite of mine and this certainly is their greatest achievement. With its memorable songs and unique sound (at the time) it really deserves the praise of "classic".
Gojira The Way of All Flesh
Gojira has got better and better over the years and for me they have hit their straps here. Songs are so effective, intricate and intense, it's unlike much else I've heard.
Iron Maiden Powerslave
Iron Maiden The Number Of The Beast
Iron Maiden Brave New World
Iron Maiden Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son
Iron Maiden A Matter Of Life And Death
Katatonia Viva Emptiness
Katatonia's high point. Songs are so dark, so engaging, so well written and produced that for me it's almost the perfect album. Even after hundreds of listens, I've never tired of it. Will remain one of my favourite albums until my dying day.
Led Zeppelin Led Zeppelin
Led Zeppelin Led Zeppelin IV
Led Zeppelin Led Zeppelin II
Led Zeppelin Physical Graffiti
Led Zeppelin Houses Of The Holy
Live Throwing Copper
Regular radio rock rarely excites me but Live is something different. Their form has been inconsistent over the years but Throwing Copper has always been a classic. The songs aren't just your typical 3 and half minute radio friendly singles. They are well written, thoughtful and moving songs and will certainly stand the test of time.
Machine Head Burn My Eyes
I heard "Dividian" on the radio one day and bought the album the next. It's always been held in the highest regard since. The songs are some of the best metal I own.
Machine Head The Blackening
Machine Head has had a bit of a roller coaster career but The Blackening has proven that they are worthy contenders of a classic band. With immense riffs, clever song writing, intricately lengthy tracks and something to please almost anyone, The Blacking is one of, if not the greatest return to form in metal history!
Mastodon Crack the Skye
After Blood Mountain, it looked like Mastodon had really excelled as a band and hit a high point. Then Crack The Skye came out. The songs are just so large, amazingly constructed and mind blowing that they only needed 7 of them to create what will go down as one of my favourite albums of all time.
Megadeth Rust In Peace
Every band has a high point and it's hard to argue against this album as Megadeth's. With the best riffs, best written songs, best sound and maybe best artwork? Rust In Peace is simply one of the greatest metal albums ever made.
Metallica Master Of Puppets
There are two types of people in the world. People who think Master Of Puppets is a classic and people who think it's shit. I'm certainly one of the first group. When it comes to influential albums, none are as influential as this. With some of the best written, best constructed and memorable songs in heavy metal history, for me it can't be anything but. CLASSIC!
Metallica Ride The Lightning
There are three types of people in the world. People who love Metallica, people who don't and people who only love "old" Metallica. While I fit into the first category, I can't deny the influence of "old" Metallica. This is one of the prime examples. With some of the most memorable and thrashiest songs, it certainly earns its title as a classic.
Metallica ...And Justice For All
This is the album that started to divide fans but for me it's their best. Sure the production is a little questionable but the songs are some of the best Metallica has ever written. Much more evolved, intricate and well written than previous efforts. Just a shame more people don't rate it as highly for what ever reason they have.
Opeth Still Life
A mélange of aggressive heaviness, brooding softness and moments that move you. Meticulously crafted yet free flowing. Still life really is the album that Opeth became a monster.
Opeth Blackwater Park
Possibly Opeth's greatest works. Each song is unique yet familiar and there's no shortage of amazingly crafted songs with moments of melancholy softness and epic grander. There are simply not enough superlatives in the english language to describe the profound effect of this album.
Opeth Deliverance
Absolute master performance by Opeth once again. Intricate song writing, moments of beauty and heaviness. Just amazing album
Opeth Damnation
Opeth has always had its soft side but it works so well contrasting from the heaviness. So when an all soft album came out, one might think it could be a bit over indulgent or lacking impact. However, it's possibly some of the most moving music Opeth has released yet. Classic as always by this classic band.
Opeth Ghost Reveries
How Opeth can keep releasing exceptional quality after exceptional quality I'll never know but they've done it again with Ghost Reveries. A typical Opeth mixture of heavy and soft, yet the riffs and melodies are still memorable and addictive. Pretty much cements Opeth's place in illustious metal history as one of the greats.
Pantera Vulgar Display of Power
When you run through a list of classic metal bands, sooner or later you'll hear Pantera mentioned and this album is one of the reasons why. Ballsy, full of attitude and keeper of some of the band's most memorable songs. Can't be ignored.
Pantera The Great Southern Trendkill
Possibly Pantera's most eclectic album with a sound different from the rest of their albums yet still maintaining classic Pantera. For my money, their best. This album has some of the best riffs, most touching moments and best displays of musicianship of any of Pantera's albums. "Floods" is almost reason enough for the 5 itself!
Porcupine Tree In Absentia
Porcupine tree has an enviable career stretching for many albums but for me, this is always the album that has stood out. A perfect mixture of rock, progressiveness and amazing song writing. Some of PT's best songs appear on this album and it's one of those that never gets old.
Portishead Dummy
Rage Against the Machine Rage Against the Machine
Rock/Rap and/or Nu Metal has come and gone yet Rage Against The Machine has always not only endured but been revered even during their break-up. This is perhaps the archetypal reason why. The best riffs, best rhymes and most well known songs. Classic is really the only way to describe it.
Rage Against the Machine The Battle of Los Angeles
Classic RATM sound yet even more. This is probably their best produced album and their best overall for me. The song writing is a bit more evolved than the other two albums and the most enjoyable to listen to. Simply amazing.
Rammstein Mutter
Hard hitting Rammstein's best album. The riffs are huge, the songs are in-your-face and the lyrics are as controversial as always. This is the album where Rammstein matured as song writers and as a band. A must for any one interested in the band.
Red Hot Chili Peppers Blood Sugar Sex Magik
RHCP's magnum opus. It has everything that the band embodies, funk, rock, sexual connotations, drug references and some of their best known songs. Classic in every sense of the word.
Sepultura Chaos A.D.
Sepultura Roots
Slayer Seasons In The Abyss
Slipknot Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses
The Jimi Hendrix Experience Electric Ladyland
The Jimi Hendrix Experience Axis: Bold as Love
The Tea Party The Edges Of Twilight
The Tea Party Triptych
The Tea Party Transmission
Tool Lateralus
Tool Ænima
Virgin Black Elegant and Dying
