Botch An Anthology of Dead Ends
This is Botch at the top of their game. Unfortunately they felt it was foolish to try to pursue a career playing noise, something that many of their counterparts tried to do as worse bands and failed. This album comes out swinging you just get 13 seconds of a strange guitar riff that is Spaim until Japam lurches out full force with Knudson's shape-shifting angular guitar riff wizardry. Framce falls out of the sky like an Asteriod to end all things. Vietnam is the mathy somewhat tamed one of the past 3 I mentioned. Afghamistam is breathtakingly gorgeous and completely out of character for Botch, complete with piano, clean vox, and violin. Micaragua is a mess of Dave Knudson's guitar effect creativity. He tweaks his delay pedal until it builds along side Tim's cascading tom rolls into a volcano that erupts spewing lava over everything. It becomes a breakdown that just crushes harder and harder as Dave and Brian downtune their guitars in time with each other until it all falls apart and the delay just fades out. Botch R.I.P

One of my best experiences with music was finding converge when i was 15, now 7 fucking years ago, holy fuck time has passed. Fuck is this album great, there is something great about enjoying this album and as time goes on it becomes more and more clear to me how much i love this album. I may enjoy When Forever Comes Crashing more, but this album is pure heartbreak, when someone leaves you and there is nothing you can do about it. It's awesome, so brutally raw and heavy. It's an acquired taste but once you like it nothing else is quite like it or as good. I'd say start with WFCC and PTES than do JD and listen to it the whole way through the first time, it will be awesome, trust me. If you like metal but not Converge go fuck yourself, your opinion does not matter to me. "oh but what about BTBAM' yeah but they wouldn't even exist without converge, i like them too but it's weak sauce compared to this. Thats the point, BTBAM is meant to be easy to listen to but it's not rewarding as Converge. catchy metal can go fuck itself when it comes to Converge, this shit is real. I'd pick Converge over any other band. Dem riffs are just nasty, Bannon is a beast, his screaming is awesome, your a pussy if you can't handle it.

This is really that good, it's the most diverse screamo album i've ever heard maybe other than CTTS, utilizing 70's prog synth, 60's psychedelia, 12 string guitars, and epic post-rock build ups. 'A Golden Dawn' is one of my favorite songs of all time, it's so damn epic and the moving lyrics tell a story about living after the apocalypse(At least thats what they sound like to me). I've been listening to this album over 5 years and I still come back to listen to it, it's a timeless album.

Harlots Betrayer
Harlots This Is the Second Death
This band had so much potential with a very original take on metalcore. The downfall to this album is the terrible production. Other than that the songs are superb. I would love to see how this album could sound if it was re-recorded in a good studio. I think Amia Venera Landscape sound alot like this band although they need to do more tech riffs instead of doing multiple tracks of piano droning ambience. This album is a great mix of technical metalcore with a few epic post-rock tracks. I highly recomend this to anyone who digs Botch, Dillinger, Converge, Isis, Amia Venera Landscape, or Pig Destroyer(If you can take the production of prowler in the yard you'll dig this)

Adorno Adorno / The Black Heart Rebellion Split (2011)
Adorno's Up North is absolutely incredible, the track is very melancholic and epic, the singing kind of reminds me of Thursday's Jeff Rickley. The post-rock part that closes the song is amazing, the riff is so good, it gets stuck in my head each time I listen to it. There is just something amazing about this song, I absolutely love it. The Black Heart Rebellion's Some of Them Howling is another typically great song as expected from the very underrated screamo/post-rock band. Very spacey and epic guitar leads with a nice and heavy rhythm section, the bass playing is killer. For fans of Gospel, check out their full length Monologue and their 4 track split with Autumn Delay.

Seriously, way better than Daughter's Canada Songs. If you want more of that then please do yourself a favor and listen to this. It's way heavier, and more serious. I think it's very original for a band from 1999.

August Burns Red Constellations
When ABR's album Messengers came out someone told me that they were the 'Saviors' of metalcore and I laughed. They were just some generic metalcore band who could play some decent techy melodic riffs with a basic mid-range screamer. I just thought they were some AILD wanabees. The album Constellations completely changed my idea of this band. I never thought any melodic metal band would ever do anything for me but they just got it on this one. The riffs are really catchy and they actually make their guitar solos work because they really fit, they are not just flashy. Matt's drumming is hypnotic and pummeling. Jake's vocals are great because you can actually understand what he saying which is rare for metal screamers. The depth of the lyrical content tops off this album with the epic emotion that the music demands. This album really hit with me but i'm not sure they are capable of becoming a real band that keeps progressing with each album. This album is about as good as melodic metalcore gets and in my eyes will remain a classic of the genre. If you like metal don't be an elitist, check this out.

This is enough to satisfy never hearing a new botch album, a great show although there we're better ones, a compilation like converge's dvd woulda been great but this is so awesome none the less. Too bad i never got to see them live. The setlist they chose for this show was great, they even did rock lobster hahaha. The commentary is real funny, they just get drunk and cut up on themselves. Definately a must have for any Botch fan. Everyone should listen to Botch though because they're the shit.

Dioramic Supra
Supra takes the best parts of later Fear Before and Exotic Animal Petting Zoo type style progressive post-hardcore into a more space rock oriented atmosphere. It stretches through the depths of a "Wall Of Sound" and tight production. It is ridiculously dense and heavy at times while also soft and accented through strummed clean guitars and psychedelic keyboards in others. Each song follows its own pattern and they all manage to standout amongst themselves in a nice flow throughout. Imo one of the best albums to come out this year, and it came out without much of any warning, a very nice surprise.

Past and Pending is such a brillant song and the best way they could have possibly ended this album. Stop arguing about Touche Amore n La Dispute n Defeater and just chill out. Heavy as balls mathcore with a hint of djentiness to it. The vocals are absolutely grating. Riffs are technical and catchy. Has a good balance of dissonance and melody. Too bad this ep is the only album these guys ever put out. They didn't create a new genre or anything but Voyager is still very original sounding. It sounds like a mix of Dillinger Escape Plan, Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza and Periphery but heavier screaming. I wouldn't doubt they broke up because the guy destroyed his vocal cords. If you like chaotic hardcore and mathcore there isn't much not to like about this ep other than the fact that it's so short; 5 songs that add up to about 22 minutes.

Damona Waits A Place With No Name
rDamona Waits is a relatively unknown band from NC. Their album A Place With No Name is a great debut LP produced by Jamie King(He's done every BTBAM album) and the production sounds similar to 'Colors' as every instrument sounds very tight with a low midrange. The style used on this album is a mix of the prog metal of BTBAM, the southern metal of Every Time I Die and He Is Legend with vocal acrobatics reminiscent of Alice In Chains. I can't believe that no one on here has heard this yet, it may not be the most original album ever but it is damn catchy and if you dig any of the bands I just mentioned then you will dig this.

I really love this album but it sucks that they broke up right before they we're about to tour the states. The two singer approach works pretty well on this album as both voices are diverse but blend together well. I think djent as a genre is really stupid as there are way too many bands doing the same goddamn thing like go find other music to play instead of copying meshuggah, although this band is an exception.

I suprisingly found this experimental hip-hop duo on an otherwise grindcore label lol. Boxguts flows and lyrics remind me of Immortal Technique and Aesop Rock. The beats are really creative, and the music has a heavy psychedelic vibe. Sebrox is the man behind the music. He creates a backdrop of trippy ambient noises with sliced and diced samples that drift in and out like a passing train. If you are a fan of the aforementioned artists you'll probably be into this. The album is free to download on their bandcamp page.

From Pittsburgh City PaperrThis is the record from 2012 that I would've lost my mind over in 2002. Guitar rock reminiscent of Lonesome Crowded West-era Modest Mouse, Q and Not U, and sundry other late-'90s and early-'00s indie rock. Good writing, good recording, nice-looking album artwork; if 2012 saw Japandroids and Cloud Nothings bringing 2000 back, then 2013 is going to be a good year for Nevada Mountains. r? Andy Mulkerin

Oldfears is a local band from Pittsburgh. My friend is the singer for this band. I just listen to this the other night and I wasn't expecting it to be near as good as this. It follows in the same vein of post-Botch bands and sounds awesome. Can't really get into this much, there is just something about them i can't stand. I loved 'Apparition' and knew they we're gonna be something great. Exoplanet is way more than i expected but at the same time there is just something missing like it's not convincing if that makes any sense. oh and the mix is complete garbage, the guitars don't match the drum sound at all, maybe the drums are too noisy. I like Harlots way more, to bad none of their albums had good production. Anyway this band definately has some talented musicians and you can tell they worked hard on this album so ill give it a 3.5.

Heavy as fuck mathcore/metalcore with Botch like riffs but way more groovy. The band coined the term for their sound as Botch n' Roll, which is quite accurate(that will either make u hate them or intrigue u). The bass tone is super raunchy and sick. The vocals are very tasteful going back and forth between raspy mid-range screaming and Daryl Palumbo reminiscent shouting. The production is perfect for their sound, everything is perfectly audible, and it's not too polished or raw. The only thing thing that brings the album down is the lack of variation between songs but fortunately momentum is maintained throughout the entire album. Snakepit is a fun as hell listen, just as long as you can get past the Botch resemblance.

Can't believe after all these years no one has reviewed this. Album rips. The guitars and drums destroy. The bass is super loud which I love, and the tone is awesome. Great mixture of spastic grind/powerviolence and groovy ass hardcore. Only lacks in diversity and some parts drag on a bit too long(which is subjective, and I'm only expressing that being considerate of opinions that are often shared on this site, even tho I don't necessarily feel that way). Ed Gein were definitely a kickass band, I hear they might be making another comeback(Bad Luck LP), lets hope for the best.

Sounds sound much better than before. The production and especially the drums on the original were painful to the ears. Now I can listen to these songs without punishing my ears in a bad way. Just throw these on a playlist with Rareform and you're good to go.

Pretty good for modern progressive djent/core and for a fellow sputniker's band. Great guitar work, drumming, and production. Love the ambient guitar lines that flow over the core of the music, they fit nicely in the mix and add more dimension to their sound. The bass work is good and it actually stands out in the mix unlike many modern core albums. I just wish there was more harsh vocals, the cleans just don't do that much for me, not saying they're bad though. rPariah State is the fuckin jam.

What in god's name am I listening to? Why does this album exist? William Shatner doesn't even sing the entire time, he just does commentary over other people's songs. I wanted this to be so bad and hilarious that I could 5 it but its just way to long(like an hour and a half), and not funny enough.

"Hey we're infectious human waste! Lets make a compilation virus to remind people how much we suck and to make it even worse we'll only put 8 infections on it so that it will be a slow painful death! And we can include 2 pathogens from our new disease that comes out in less than 3 months!"
Jordan Blake and Etienne Sin The Legend, The Leader
This is the most atrocious piece of garbage i've ever heard. If I ever see this Etienne on street im going to grab him by his hair and throw him into a wall. Everyone 1 this so we can have an example of what the absolute lowest of low in music is like. Everything awful must be judged off of this album because I don't think it could get much worse. Rich scene kid getting famous playing electrogay/post-buttrapecore is probably the worst thing to ever happen to music. No, it is not even catchy to the least bit or have any decent lyrical content. Just listen to of mice & men.
