5.0 classic
After the Burial In Dreams
One of my favorite albums. So much unique brutality and progression within this band. Unbelievabley good. With solos that cause my ears to bleed in the best possible way, and breakdowns that cause me to poop. Everywhere.
Attack Attack! Attack Attack!
Wow. This album is so incredibley underrated. Even though Austin's vocals are a little more preferable, this album is by far their most brutal and facepunching stuff. It's not the most unique thing out there, but it does what it's intended to do.
Between the Buried and Me Colors
The BEST of Between The Buried And Me is concealed in these 8 songs. The most flawless, well though-out material that has ever graced the world. Prepare your ears, and buy many many pairs of boxers. From the range of genres, to the PERFECTION of each, this album is definitely a classic.
Between the Buried and Me Alaska
At first, I really wasn't crazy about this album. The overall production seemed to be lacking to me, and I wasn't into this advanced blend of genre-bending talent at first. And then I learned Sun of Nothing on guitar. Holy freaking cowburger. I decided to go back and give this album another listen, and it's now one of my favorite albums now. I learned what BTBAM puts into each song; how complicated and though-out each song is. It's such a work of brutal art, but incorporates many other genres within it. A fantastic classic.
Between the Buried and Me The Parallax II: Future Sequence
Between the Buried and Me The Great Misdirect
DRTMNSTR DRTMNSTR
Panic! at the Disco Vices & Virtues
Really a comeback if I ever heard one. I feel as though they took their base in their first album, combined it with the upbeat style/production of their second album, and then were like "Oh, let's make everyone poop when they hear this album", and vwalla. Ya gotcho self a nice steamin' beautiful masterpiece of catchyness.
The Dear Hunter Act II: The Meaning of, & All Things Regarding Ms. Leading
By far, the greatest piece of The Dear Hunter album that they have ever made. So varied and unique. Nothing better out there. This album seamlessly defies what is a typical orchestrated band. All of the variation is timed so perfectly in their places, that it begs the question of whether this album has one exact genre, which is amazing for a band to do. Simply their best material to date.
The Dear Hunter The Color Spectrum (Complete Collection)
This is so much more than music. This is so much more than a "work of art". This is just beyond words. The shear production if this masterpiece is enough to astound anyone. The lyrics are (I believe) the best lyrics this band has ever done. Each EP is it's own album; it's own story. The themes within each song are portrayed so well to any listener. This project also proves that we all have that attention span that has been stereotyped as being whittled away. Truly a masterpiece worth of being awarded as a classic.
The Human Abstract Digital Veil
It takes A LOT for an album to be incredible to me, but this is definitely, and without a doubt, the best album of 2011, hands down. There is a lot of great, amazing really, stuff out there, but the riffs from the guitars, the way the songs are timed, and the way the lyrics are presented is just phenomenal. Simply their best, and simply THE best record of 2011.
The World Is Quiet Here Zon

4.5 superb
Beardfish Mammoth
This album is amazing. They have such a way of fusing together odd chord combinations and progressions with soothing but sharp vocals, insane organ skills and incredibly catchy songwriting. As a different review has stated, this band has given up crazy band-hype for more advanced songwriting skills. I seriously love this album. Great for any person who loves that classic sound of the 70s.
Between the Buried and Me The Parallax: Hypersleep Dialogues
Definitely seeing a lot of "Colors" in this EP. Not only is it catchy, but everything has gotten a lot smoother (I.e. transitions, solos, chorus's, and timings). Just a fantastic listen.
Bone Gardens Vital Fragments
Born of Osiris The Discovery
By far, their best material, EVER. They have combined their previous two albums to create a masterpiece of the highest technicality. Everything is produced so well, and the sheer talent that is integrated into this album is so evident. The only thing that bothered me slightly was that towards the end, a few songs seemed to blend together a little too well.
Closure in Moscow First Temple
Such a fantastic, wonderfulicious, supercalifragelistic, expialidoscious album. Very similar to TMV and MTB, but very catchy and extremely well played.
Coldplay Mylo Xyloto
A really great listen. The production is phenomenal, the riffs and choruses are catchy as hell, and all of the different sounds that are heard seem to tie everything together in a great way. A great album that is some of the band's best work.
Ever Forthright Ever Forthright
This album is fucking fantastic. I had downloaded the free demos before the album, so I thought I kind of had an idea of what was yet to come. In all honesty, I thought it was going to be one of those albums with like 3 great songs, and the rest would be mediocre. But I was absolutely blown out of the water. The riffage, the choruses, the vocals (screaming AND singing), and the solos: everything is so flawless. The technicality of this record is mind-blowing, and you can tell that this band put their all into every single song. Favorites: All Eyes On Earth, Lost In Our Escape, The Little Albert Experiment.
Ewan Dobson Ewan Dobson II
Even more amazing than his first record! A lot more melody, style and technique. He's such a disciplined artist and is so devoted to music. A great listen for anyone who enjoys folk, bluegrass or classical guitar.
Native Construct Quiet World
Painted in Exile Revitalized
FREAKING LOVE THIS RECORD. The only part I wish was changed was that it was twice as long and then some
Periphery Periphery
Periphery is one of the most original bands out there. "Original" is almost impossible to come by, as things are just altered or changed, but not created entirely new, but Misha Mansoor, with his complete lack of musical theory, creates some of the most amazing riffs and song structures. The only thing I think could use work is the screaming. But the combination of that, and the WEIRDEST singing by Spencer really make this different, but in a GOOD way; no, a GREAT way.
Protest the Hero Fortress
Possibly their best record. Not as unnecessarily technical as Kezia, and much more thought-out than Scurrilous. All of the songs are classics in my eyes, and everything so perfect. This album DEFINES who Protest The Hero is.
Sara Bareilles Kaleidoscope Heart
Coming from a true metalhead like me, this album is one of my favorite. Sarah has definitely one of the best voices that I have ever heard. The spunky, energetic feel of the piano, layered with her beautiful and yet, truthful vocals, really bring out the best in each song. The only thing that bothers me about this album is towards the end, a few songs seem to feel a little "extra" and not needed.
SikTh Death of a Dead Day
So I know nothing is really "original" anymore, but this album comes as close to being original as possible. It is SO much more than what I expected, from the crazy technical math metal aspects of it, to just the sheer shredding and artistry that goes into every song. Not to mention the ballads which are fucking CACHY, and the vocals which are so well done to compliment everything else. Definitely worth buying, no doubt about it.
Substructure Monolith
One of the best produced albums I've ever heard. Everything is just so perfect in this album. From the atmospheric landscape that is painted for the listener, to the brutal face-punching guitar and screams. It's such an amazing djeathcore album, and definitely worth the $5. Please get this album!!
The Dear Hunter Act IV: Rebirth in Reprise
The Reign of Kindo Rhythm, Chord & Melody
Fantastic album. From the variety of each song to the perfection of each of many instruments, this is definitely in my tops.
White Arms of Athena Astrodrama
An incredible mix of earthy deathmetal and atmospheric melodies that create a masterpiece. Like many other reviews, the term "Epic prog shred" seems to fit the album quite nicely. Not only is it a concept record (keep in mind this is their DEBUT album), but the artwork is incredible, and all of the songs flow into each other flawlessly to create one of my personal favorite albums. Please give this band a listen; you'll be glad you did.

4.0 excellent
Andy McKee Art of Motion
Wow. Mr. McKee is one guitarist who knows what the hell he's doing. His songs have DIRECTION, and every bit of this album is wrapped in beauty. One of the most underrated guitarists, Andy McKee proves that you don't have to look like you know what you're doing, to know what the hell you're doing.
Animals As Leaders Animals as Leaders
A really intricate piece of musicianship. Tosin Abasi may be a control freak of the highest caliber, but he knows how to make with the awesome music. Another thing that surprised me was how perfect the drums were. The ideas behind each song really shine through.
Beardfish Sleeping in Traffic: Part Two
Beardfish Sleeping in Traffic: Part One
Beardfish The Sane Day
Beardfish Destined Solitaire
Cloudkicker The Discovery
I would definitely say that this is better than Beacons. Not by much, because all this stuff is amazing, but a little bit. Cloudkicker's QUALITY is what surprises me, for being basically a one-man band. And the shear Djentyness of this blows my socks off.
Craig D'Andrea Craig D'Andrea ...and the B.L.T'.s
Absolutely gorgeous album. Mr. D'Andrea is such a talented guitarist and musician in general, and this album proves that. His best.
Ever Forthright 2010 Demo (Instrumental)
So technical and unique. As a lover of jazz and djent, djazz really does it for me :D
Ewan Dobson Ewan Dobson
An extremely excellent album. Ewan's style does take a little getting used to, but his talent is so beyond anything anyone else does. This man is a machine.
I Am Abomination To Our Forefathers
Such a great, talented album by a few young men who know what they're doing. The guitars are by far some of the best riff-bearing pieces to the songs. Not to mention, the vocals, which are ALL singing. Singing in metal?! WHAT?! WHHAAAATTT!!?!!?!?! Yes. They are good. Very very gewd.
Maps and Atlases Perch Patchwork
A really solid album. A very different sound from a band, and I really enjoy it. A lot of range from punkish sounds to indie acoustic bits. The singer has a great Randy Newman-esce voice, and you can tell that a lot of soul was put into this album. Very excellent.
Newton Faulkner Hand Built By Robots
Definitely the best of his two albums. There is so much passion that Newton puts into these songs, and you can tell that it's there. From beautiful guitarwork to timeless vocals, this album hasn't gotten old yet.
Night Moves Colored Emotions
Norah Jones Come Away with Me
A sweet, melodic and wonderful album. Such a sweet vocal range, and she really knows how to produce a tranquilizing piece of art.
Protest the Hero Scurrilous
This band never ceases to amaze me, but this album is not their best material, but it is fantazmical nonetheless. Some of the songs start sounding similar after awhile, and Rody seems to have lost some direction in his voice.
Steffen Schackinger ElectriGuitaristry
A fantastic album. For a guitarnerd like me, this album does NOT disappoint. He knows what he's doing, and does not skimp on the technical, yet beautiful and orgasmic riffs that build this man's amazing tunes.
The Contortionist Exoplanet
Definitely their best material. I do feel that a few songs feel unfinished, or they felt like ending them out of boredom. Other than that, a fancy technical masterpiece of riffage and brutal vocals, not to mention bits that get caught in your mind for hours.
The Dear Hunter Branches
Really a great piece of musicianship. Very short, sweet and to the point. This EP is almost better to me than Act IV.
The Faceless Planetary Duality
While bringing forth everything great from Akeldama, it also shows how well this band has progressed forward. Although at certain spots, it can all start to mesh together, but I feel that that is expected with any sort of metal release. Just a great and fresh album for anyone who be lovin' da solos and da metal.
The Ocean Anthropocentric
Personally, one of my favorite albums. Their best-produced material to date.
The Ocean Precambrian
Wow. What a well-played piece of thought-out musical structure. This album tells a story. And it makes you WANT to listen.
Thomas Giles Pulse
Such a great album. Thomas Giles has such a way to balance everything with different genres (much like BTBAM), to create one coherent piece of work that anyone can love. He's got his shizzle together.
Tides of Man Empire Theory
It's really amazing how this band can keep coming up with such catchy and unique riffs. This album and Dreamhouse are very close in comparison, which is a good thing, but I do think that Empire Theory is a little more fresh and new. However, the one thing that pleasantly surprises me is how well the album, for a debut at least, is mixed and produced. These guys definitely know what they're doing.
VersaEmerge Fixed at Zero
Whenever I think about/listen to this band, I think about Tim Burton having sex with Paramore. 'Nuff said.

3.5 great
August Burns Red Constellations
A really fantastic album, but not too many songs break away from the staleness of the metal scene. But hardly any bands can be this good.
Beardfish The Void
Bone Gardens [Fusiforms]
Chiodos Illuminaudio
Such a great and catchy album. The sound is so fresh and layered, and along with the their new singer's vocals, it really makes for a fantastic and energetic listen that you can really admire.
Cory Chisel and The Wandering Sons Death Won't Send A Letter
A really good listen. Very catchy and unique in the sense that they use very country-esce ideals but present them ina blues/jazz way, including a lot of organ which I love. Great album.
Envy On The Coast Lucy Gray
I really like this album; been listening to it a lot recently. I think it's better than Lowcountry, because it's a little more spontaneous and fast-paced (not that Lowcountry isn't good, I mean, c'mon). Some songs do start to sound a little similar after awhile, but they are all catchy as hell nonetheless, and I find that (x) Amount Of Truth, and "...I'm Breathing..." both really balance out the album.
Irepress Sol Eye Sea I
Such an incredible mix of genres, I can't even begin to categorize this album. So, so incredibly different, but SO SO FREAKIN' good!
Job For A Cowboy Ruination
I love JFAC, but with deathmetal comes repetition that can get bland, and I find that this album does that a little. Still, a great piece of work. Summon The Hounds = CREAMIN'.
Orbs Asleep Next to Science
A great record. It combines catchy vocals with stunning keys and guitar, being tied together with quirky effects and timings. Takes a little bit to get used to some of the sounds, but overall, a very memorable album.
Portugal. The Man American Ghetto
This album is a huge step-up from Uncensored Colors. It's a little more rap-like in the beats, but not in a bad way. The songs are more varied, and have much more catchy choruses, rather than having one chorus being repeated over and over again. A very good album.
State Radio Let It Go
This band is so stripped down, but with the very little that they have, create a catchy and diverse album that leaves chorus and melodies stuck in your head for hours.
The Crimson Armada Conviction
I can't believe this is getting such suckish reviews! I mean, sure they got rid of a bit of technicality, but they have really good vocals for singing, and introduced piano into their style which changes everything. I really think this is a tight album and is a lot better than the first.
The Ocean Heliocentric
A much more "jamable" album than their other stuff. Metaphysics and Epiphany are just amazing.
The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza Danza III: Series of Unfortunate Events
Really, a great piece of brutal. The sheer rawness of it all really comes through. The 8-stringy goodness accompanied by high-pitched notes and tapping is such a paradox in itself...but it works.
The World Is Quiet Here Prologue
Within the Ruins Creature
As bland as the metal genre can get, this band really stands out with technicality first and foremost, and tasty riffs on top of that, instead of the standard chugging and grunting. One of my favorite albums.

3.0 good
Beardfish +4626-Comfortzone
Dr. Acula Slander
Pretty decent album. Very straighforward and heavy, brutal and in-your-face. Not much talent here, but these guys really know how to transcend the party through the metal.
My Chemical Romance Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys
I've been a HUGE MCR fan for a long time, and this album did disappoint me a little, because of the overall mainstreamness of it. But they still have that same glow that made me realize why I loved them in the first place.
The Arusha Accord The Echo Verses
Been really into these dudes lately. I really wish I could enjoy this album more. It's just so chaotic and crazy, and kind of senseless, not to mention that it's incredibly hard to tell each song apart. However, I love ALL of the insane amount of effort that goes into each mathterpiece (see what I did there?) because everything is so technical and crazy. I love watching them play their songs. It's just hard to sit through this album. But in small doses it works
The Dear Hunter Act III: Life and Death
I love The Dear Hunter to pieces, and this album is pretty good. But compared to their other stuff, it's not good at all. Not as diverse, and a little more mainstream (but I don't think this band will become mainstream, thank god), and a little more simplistic. Not as amazing. Still, good.
The Dear Hunter Migrant
The World Is Quiet Here Prologue (Instrumental)
Whitechapel This Is Exile
A really, really great listen. I like this album because it moves away from the (let's face it) bland genre of metal. The riffs are catchy like none I have ever heard, and Phil's vocals are really what makes this worth listening to.

2.5 average
AFI Crash Love
Ehh. Not their best material at all. Nothing from this album stands out like December Underground. Only 2 songs really do it for me. But, I have heard worse, and I still have hope that AFI can do better in the future.
Between the Buried and Me The Silent Circus
Portugal. The Man Censored Colors
Look, I like this band, and they obviously have some talent, but I feel like every song on this album can be known within the first 30 seconds of the song. Some songs are pretty catchy, but they are soooo repetative, and I have yet to listen to their other albums, but I'm going to, and I expect more from this band.

1.5 very poor
Texas in July One Reality
The most generic, boring, unentertaining piece of shit that I have ever had the displeasure of letting touch the insides of my ears. Simply put.
