A big step up for these guys, but its generic feel quickly overpowers the great breakdown/heavy potential. Still a very fun listen, but it won't last you very long. |

Emmure Slave To The Game |
"Slave To The Game" is a major step for Emmure. As a lifetime listener of them (look at my Goodbye to the Gallows opinions for explanation), they of course have always overused breakdowns, to the point where some of their songs ARE breakdowns. But not here. There are breakdowns aplenty, but they also have proven that there is talent to be had and that they know how to make solid music. Chugging? Yes. Electronics? Yes. But still a step up in every way from the past 2 albums. |

Green Day 21st Century Breakdown |
Green Day will always be one of my favorite bands, even as their music changes. A lot of people out there think that the changes they have made have been nothing but detrimental to their classic sound. I agree, but only to an extent. If you listened to Green Day in the past for nothing but their signature punk sound, you will hate the new stuff beyond belief. But "21st Century Breakdown" is simply a step in the perfect direction referring to music. Their old stuff was a great listen, sure. But was it fantastic MUSIC? Or did it just sound really good? I think choice 2 is the real answer. With this album, those old punk roots are pretty much gone (with the exception of a few songs here and there), but Green Day has shown that they are more than just punks. They are very talented musicians. This album exhibits exactly that. It's not something that a closed-minded Green Day fan will like. But as a lover of music in general, this new material is definitely above-average. Some songs kind of suck in all honesty, but for the most part, Green Day is headed in the right direction and will continue to grow as a group for a while. |

This is why I have a hard time taking Staff seriously. They had their minds made up well before this came out. I don?t even think there?s any possible justification for giving this a 1.5, either. |
