I'll explain why! Instrumention/vocals. Vocals-Daryl's vocals are literally breath taking. He can go from mind-blowing screaming then in a blink of an eye into melodic soaring vocals. He's influence can heard in a lot of vocalist these days. Guitars-Heavy/melodic/always interesting. Wish they still had 2 guitarists... Bass-Keeps the songs together, not really much to say. Can be heard well in some of the songs Drumming- awesome, defiantly interesting fast hardcore-esque drumming especially on the track "babe" lyrics- bitter, angry, probably written after a fall out of a bad relationship. Track by track verdict- "Pretty Lush"- Kicks right into it, a short riff followed by a clean yet bitter Daryl then into a extremely catchy chorus...Not my favourite track by any means but a good opener. 4/5 "Siberian Kiss"- wow was my verdict when I first heard this, Jesus the screaming at the start ***ing owns! again, with GlassJAw another highly enjoyable highly catchy chorus. One of my favourites. 5/5 "When one eight becomes two zeros" - this is where in my opinion where Daryl's melodic singing really starts to shine, quite a mellow track with some of my favourite lyrics. 5/5 "Ry Ry's song" - Hands down one of the catchiest songs I have ever heard, slightly more of a pop-punk/melodic hardcore feel with this song. 5/5 "Lovebites & Razorlines" - bitter, heavy, angry but still catchy. The screaming at the start ruined it a bit for me but gotta love that chorus! 4/5 "Hurting & shoving" - kinda filler, I usally skip this one. 2/5 "Majour" - more mellow, catchy (again), very enjoyable. don't skip this one 5/5 "Her middle name was boom!" - aww, this is a beautiful track. the vocals make my spine shiver, slow & almost ballad-esque. A definite favourite for me. straight up 5/5 "Piano" - (again, haha) I love this chorus, GlassJAw certainly have talent for making catchy songs! 5/5 "Babe" - apart from the drumming this is another song I usally skipped. 2/5 "Everything you ever wanted to know about silence" 5/5 "Motel of the White locust" - 4/5 an addictive, catchy, superb album. everybody should give this a listen sometime in their life. 5/54.0 excellentMadball Set It Off I've seen in another review I've read on another website that Madball are basically the AC/DC of hardcore. you know what you're expecting with Madball but they always make solid/groovy/riff heavy hardcore. on "Set it off" that's what you'll hear- groovy/thrashy riffs, fast hardcore drumming and slightly monotone shouted vocals. nothing new or creative with the lyrical themes, family, fights, living on the harsh streets of New York City. A concept maybe other hardcore bands have used, I first became aware of Madball last May when in my metal hammer magazine Jamey Jasta (hatebreed) suggested this album and called it one of his favourite. Seeing as I was currently looking for new hardcore/metal bands I had to see what this sounded like. I listened to the 30 second samples you get on ITunes, I was actually surprised and decided to purchase the album a few months later, yeah it suffers from some same sounding songs and as I mentioned the vocals are monotone, that's what could easily put people off with hardcore. but seriously the guitars & drums make up for that. The think/groovy beefy concrete hard riffs flow with the drumming. if you're in need of some more hardcore and aren't that familiar with Madball, give this a listen! 4/51.5 very poorEmmure Speaker Of The Dead Ah, yes. Emmure, virtually hated in the metal community for their repetitive un-original bland metalcore, this their fourth full length carrys on with the bland/repetitive style. Okay, I'm never been a Emmure fan at all- I'm a fan of metalcore but Emmure were just to bland. Onto the album! So Emmure have you still carried on with your terrible vocal garbage with added rap elements, boring simple drumming, chugging, chugging breakdowns & don't forgot some of the worst lyrics I have read? Yes, you ***ing have! With 16 tracks that pretty much sound the same I'm now struggling to carry on listening to this ***ing garbage, I would be rather force fed to listen to Katy Perry, maybe I'm over-reacting but how can these guys have any fans left? The first song i heard on this was "Demons With Ryu" on ITunes- maybe they might have gone into the studio and thought "Let's try to make something creative and slightly more original" yeah, that didn't happen Then I saw the video for "Solar Flare Homicide" oh wow, how unexpected- it sounds the same as any other song this joke of band continue to make. I could go through each track and say why they're rubbish or why they're half-decent but I can't arsed...The truth is I really really struggled to find something slightly good about the album. I'll give my verdict on the instrumention/lyrics- Vocals- shifts between growling/screaming/spoken word style rap elements. Terrible, vocals garbage. Get a new job, Frankie Palmeri. Guitars- Chugging, chugging, gies what?! more ***ing chugging. as I've said, bland/repetitive/sounds very familiar to every other song Emmure have done. Drumming- The only really good thing I have to say is the drumming, better but even the drumming becomes repetitive- obviously not a talented drummer trying he's hardest to sound professional. Lyrics- My words can't describe how much they suck...No refrences to the song titles at all, make no sense, blatant that they wrote 'em in around five minutes. So, if you're familiar with Emmure and want to see how this album sounds like, easy just go through their back catolouge.
