Demon Hunter True Defiance
Killswitch Engage Alive or Just Breathing
A classic of the Metalcore scene, and metal in general. While it shows some weaknesses in terms of songwriting, the overall album is both brutal and beautiful, and shows the potential that metalcore used to have. My favorite tracks are probably "Numbered Days", "Self Revolution", and "The Element of One". A few of tracks in the middle of the album fall short of ideal.

3.5 great

3.0 good
As I Lay Dying The Powerless Rise
Not bad for the modern metalcore scene. The whole album eventually blends into one though, and all the tracks sound exactly the same. Much experimentation with tempos and guitar sounds should be undertaken, and I think Tim should try singing, because the whiny emo choruses, courtesy of the bassist, just don't cut it when you consider the ferocity and intensity of Tims vocals and the music.
