4.0 excellent
The Elemental Chrysalis The Dark Path To Spiritual Expansion
Dark Path is the flawed champion of the entire genre -- not perfection, but as close as neofolk has gotten to it.

3.5 great
Bon Iver For Emma, Forever Ago
Iron & Wine-esque folk meets Phosphorescent's charm and composition. The whole album is solid and appreciable, but the stand-out strength of a few downright fantastic songs has a way of making the rest of the album feel less impressive in comparison.

3.0 good
Halo Manash Language of Red Goats
Its fantastically surreal quality keeps it from being accessible or welcoming.
Nest (FIN) Trail of the Unwary
Enjoyable and accessible, it soon becomes repetitious and struggles to hold interest.

2.5 average
Alexi Murdoch Time Without Consequence
Most of the album feels characteristically generic and uninteresting, but a handful of creative tracks rise above the rest.
