Andy Stott Luxury Problems
Brand New The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me
The most emotionally affecting album I've ever listened to...period

Burial Kindred
Just in case you thought his imitators could someday come close.
Clint Mansell, Kronos Quartet and Mogwai The Fountain
Clubroot III - MMXII
Converge When Forever Comes Crashing
Deftones White Pony
DM Stith Heavy Ghost
Strange, innovative, pretty, terrifying. DM Stith takes 'freak folk' to such freakish place I can't help but love it.
El-P Cancer 4 Cure
This is El-p fully realizing every good idea he's ever had, culminating in one of the greatest hip hop albums I've listened to. He perfects his flow, lyrics, and creates more accessible yet more atmospheric and mood building beats than anything he's done. The album is a moving trip through one of the most well crafted concepts recorded. He's really just showing off at this point.

Swans Soundtracks for the Blind
Though I'm in love with the newest incarnation of Swans, listening to this album will probably remain the most intense musical experience for me. Regardless of my surroundings listening to it takes all of my attention, I find it difficult to read on even the minimal ambient tracks. From the lofi voice samples to the post-rock opuses and folk the entire thing works to create the most disturbing and strange world in music, and the sequencing is so well done, it would be a shame to skip a track of this 2.5 hour album.
Swans The Seer
So after a 14 year hiatus, Swans have now released two albums that not only live up to their classic material, but in my opinion, surpass it. This isn't supposed to happen.
Swans To Be Kind
Ugly Casanova Sharpen Your Teeth

Burial Street Halo

I don't know if this is an objective rating, but I absolutely never get tired of this album. The beats are diverse, but always haunting and heavy. My favorite thing to freestyle to.

Modest Mouse Good News for People Who Love Bad News
Anyone who says this is modest mouse "selling out" is looking at it the wrong way. This is Isaac Brock finding a degree of happiness in the world. These catchy melodies reflect that. Earlier works (especially the first two lp's) were works of depression and turmoil. The raw emotion of those albums is a large part of what made them great. This is simply a different kind of emotion. Everything in this album is genuine, and is in no way selling out. That said, it isn't as complete an album as their first three, and feels more like a collection of songs than a furnished record, and is not perfect.

3.0 good
Das Racist Shut Up, Dude
Death Grips The Money Store
For a few days, I thought this was THE new shit. Then my ears just hurt. It's interesting and
novel, but ultimately the beats are subpar, especially when they aren't heavy or "raw" enough
to achieve that aggressiveness that seems a worthy goal in itself. The lyrics are generally
good, and I personally dig Ride's delivery. Especially when he sounds genuinely angry, which
is unfortunately lost for a fair portion of the record. Much better than Exmilitary, but that
wasn't hard.
Eminem The Eminem Show
James Blake Enough Thunder
Skrillex Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites

2.5 average
Bring Me the Horizon Suicide Season
Das Racist Relax
Tyler, the Creator Bastard
Tyler, the Creator Goblin

2.0 poor
Avenged Sevenfold Avenged Sevenfold
Bring Me the Horizon Count Your Blessings
HIM Dark Light
Hurt Goodbye To The Machine
Tool 10,000 Days
No matter how I look at this album, the majority seems to be boring filler with three songs that I can honestly enjoy (Vicarious, Jambi, The Pot), and all of those tracks are quite repetitive and overstay their welcome. Tool has often lived up to their pretentiousness, but failed miserably with this release.

1.5 very poor
Death Grips Exmilitary
I like a couple of songs a little bit...most of it is truly unlistenable in my book.
Eminem Relapse
Eminem Recovery
Linkin Park A Thousand Suns

1.0 awful
