This being their debut album, I wasn't expecting to be completely blown away by it. And I was
not at all. The record would have been stronger for me if they kept off the three songs released in
early 2011 (The Oath, Somewhere in Hiding, 40 Below) and replaced them with newer tracks.
While they are some of the better tracks on the album, they've been out in the wild for almost a
year now and the album versions hardly differed from that of the demos.
That being said, The Ascent is still a fun listen and should be enjoyed by all fans of this genre. |

There's 3 types of songs on this album: The Imagine Dragons radio singles with huge
choruses, acoustic country pop songs that just fall flat and drag on, and then the Nick
Martin-led "punk rock" tracks with swear words and screaming. They're all bad. |

the "His Last Walk" era and it makes the record feel old and outdated. Added in with Shomo's
muffled production, this EP is more of a what-could-have-been rather than a what-is. |
