SECRETS The Ascent
This being their debut album, I wasn't expecting to be completely blown away by it. And I was
not at all. The record would have been stronger for me if they kept off the three songs released in
early 2011 (The Oath, Somewhere in Hiding, 40 Below) and replaced them with newer tracks.
While they are some of the better tracks on the album, they've been out in the wild for almost a
year now and the album versions hardly differed from that of the demos.

That being said, The Ascent is still a fun listen and should be enjoyed by all fans of this genre.
Senses Fail Life Is Not a Waiting Room
Skynet Skynet
Sleeping With Sirens Feel
Sleeping With Sirens Madness
There's 3 types of songs on this album: The Imagine Dragons radio singles with huge
choruses, acoustic country pop songs that just fall flat and drag on, and then the Nick
Martin-led "punk rock" tracks with swear words and screaming. They're all bad.
Taking Back Sunday Taking Back Sunday
Texas in July One Reality
Texas in July Texas in July
The Amity Affliction Let the Ocean Take Me
The Amity Affliction Chasing Ghosts
The Bad Chapter Cheers To the Down and Outs
Would be much better without the lackluster screaming and breakdowns. Worth a listen just for Phil's singing, not much else redeeming about this.
The Color Morale Hold On Pain Ends
The Dead Rabbitts Edge of Reality
While Craig Mabbitt's screams have greatly improved over the years, his singing is still stuck in
the "His Last Walk" era and it makes the record feel old and outdated. Added in with Shomo's
muffled production, this EP is more of a what-could-have-been rather than a what-is.
The Devil Wears Prada Dear Love: A Beautiful Discord
The Gaslight Anthem Handwritten
Underoath The Changing Of Times
We Came As Romans Understanding What We've Grown to Be
I expected much better from these dudes. The entire album sounds like a To Plant A Seed b-side.

Broadway Gentleman's Brawl
The epitome of Easycore/Power-Pop trite.
When "Vagrant Stories" was released as the first single, it was clear that Broadway was pushing
their heaviness aside in favor of a pop-like sound. The track had me interested in the band's
promising new direction. I expected a pop album, and I received a pop album. But 'Gentlemen's
Brawl' isn't even a good pop album, by any means. Sure there are a few interesting sequences in a
small handful of songs, but as a whole, this sophomore album is a huge disappointment.
