I blew out my moms speakers to this. Contemplated jail time while the sounds induced a picturesque landscape of a valley littered with the corpses of mine enemies. Best served with cocoa.

The Funeral Pyre Vultures At Dawn
I cant seem to grasp why this albums rating is higher than Wounds. I'm streaming Vultures at Dawn as i type and yet again my senses aren't responding like they did to Wounds. I busted my moms speakers while listening to it when i worked for the census, speeding down the interstate at 80mph. Driving was endorphin inducing enough, so one might say my comparison is clouded given the factors included in my "Wounds listening experience". But i remember listening to Wounds before i got in the car, and i played it over and over (because i wanted to). Vultures at Dawn seems to fall short of every other release Ive heard (December e.p., Wounds, and the Nature of Betrayal). Its slower, the dual melodies aren't as present as in previous attempts. (although that might be because I'm streaming a lower quality version) I will say i love that dual solo towards the end of Monolith (almost sounds like they're about hit you with some southern-rock) I also like the way Personal Exile progresses from intro to verse, but i find the tom tom drum fills in the intro are a little bit distracting from the flow of it. After that the song just seems to me like a black metal band jamming out and writing willy nilly, in a black metal respect of course. I would have loved to hear some clean guitar melodies like they "almost" did at the end of Personal Exile. And i absolutely love the feedback on "Vultures", but then its interrupted by more mediocre black metal. Granted every song has something good about it. But i think the mediocrity outweighs the the highlights. Ive read a couple of articles online where the band claims to have "lost all hope in humanity". I think this sentiment might have transferred over to their song writing process. Poo! My mind might change once i give it a listen in full CD quality, but the arrangements just don't tickle me the right way. Cheers!
