Arcade Fire The Suburbs
Nearly overflowing with musical variety and influences spanning decades and genres, Arcade Fire's "The Suburbs" is arguably their most accessible work to date while still retaining the same trademark sincerity, passion, and beauty that first brought them to the attention of indie blogs and zines everywhere 6 years ago.
As mentioned, they've added a variety of new sounds to their vast musical arsenal including, but not limited to, Neil Young-inspried folk, blue grass style piano work, new wave, ramones-era punk, shoegaze, dream pop, and 50s era pop/rock, while still miraculously maintaining the same string arrangements that first caught everyone's attention.
In the hands of lesser musicians it much be too much to handle and come crashing down but Arcade Fire pull off the unlikely balancing act in ways rarely heard before. This is a new classic that sounds like an old one and it will be rediscovered by music geeks of all ages in record stores for decades to come.
