It's not difficult to see that Steven Wilson is the brains behind Art Rock legends Porcupine Tree. In fact, this entire album sounds like it could have been a collection of B-Sides from various eras of his band. But that doesn't make it bad. In fact, this album is quite good.
One of the reasons the listener can put up with this album nearly identical to a PT record is that it took Wilson nearly 20 years to put out a solo record. He'd been doing side projects since the mid-90s, and all of which sound vastly different than anything else he does, so it's relaxing to hear that he's not a one-trick pony.
The opener, "Harmony Korine", is a stunner. |
