Stella Luna Stargazer
It's loud tonight, really loud. Loud in a way that is almost soothing. Time stands still as I look around to see the local crowd in suspended animation. On stage in the half light and surrounded by relentlessly blaring amplifiers are the group STELLA LUNA guided by something only they can see. You get the impression they are priveleged to some secret knowledge to which we are oblivious. Like shadows poised, these women and men from the future churn out a deafening set of material that connects song to song with guitar feedback and experimental noise. A few of the less hardy audience members are driven out by the maelstrom. Captivated bar patrons swoon. I was told that I should see this band live - a beautiful, swirling noise similar in nature to "shoegazer" groups like My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive from early 90's Britain. The experience is worth it, but I should have brought some earplugs. After this, the night's opening acts seem anemic and pale in comparison. My ears are left ringing, assisting in the hypnotic intoxication which is Stella Luna.
