The perfect bridge between Prog and Heavy Metal. Organist Vincent Crane demonstrates his amazing talent here; possibly at the same level of Keith Emerson, Rick Wakeman and Jon Lord. Crane's ability with the Hammond organ is impressive and his melodies and solos are superb. Guitarist John DuCann is not the best guitarist in the world, but he creates an amazing tone, great riffs and since their is no Bass player, he is mostly in charge of the rhythm. However, he delivers strong solos, and when he does, Crane maintains rhythm. Drummer Paul Hammond had some tough shoes to fill. Replacing Carl Palmer is no easy task, but with this album he proves he's up to the challenge. If you don't believe me, listen to his solo on "Gershatzer". I can see why some won't consider it a classic, but in musical ability and creativity, I believe it surpasses many, even (dare I say) Pink Floyd.rMost definitely worth a listen. If you enjoy this, then listen to the album that came before and after this. A very underrated gem in the Progressive field. |
