Ani DiFranco Dilate |
Ani DiFranco Living in Clip |
Ani was an influential artist for most independent artists at the time. She peaked in the late 90's. This was the live album that followed her best record "Dilate," and, in it, you can find improved versions of basically every major song she had previously recorded in studio. Unlike other singers, Ani thrives in live performance and it is evident here. This is also one of the last things she did with drummer Andy Stochansky, with whom she obviously enjoyed working.
As a personal anecdote, I ran into Andy outside sala Bikini in Barcelona during the tour and, when I told him I was missing a few tickets for some friends, he ran in and got them for me. No pomposity, no nothing, and this was a sold out event. |

Widely overlooked, solid rock album from the mid 90's. Industrial sound with tons of
attitude and energy. The quality of the songs is uneven, with the best being "Little
Prince," "Stop" & "180 Degrees," which is probably the best example of their style.

The Almighty Crank |
These guys opened for Pantera along with Downset during the Far Beyond Driven tour and, at
least in Barcelona, they were the top band that night. This album, unlike the next one they
released, captures faithfully their intensity and sound. It is consistently solid from
beginning to end with a few gems here and there, such as "Welcome To Defiance."
I call it "Rock" while others would call it "Metal," but, in reality it is basically
aggressive Punk/Rock. |

The Cassettes 'Neath the Pale Moon |
The Cassettes Countach |
Another great one from Virginia's The Cassettes. The title track is pure vintage power rock, with metal solo and all. The rest of the album is classic Cassettes sound, with delicious tracks such as "Invisible One," "Never Lost" and "Copter." |
