5.0 classic
Agalloch The Mantle
A beautiful album that is a joy to get lost in. Gloriously depressing and epic beyond words, grab your headphones and your drug of choice and prepare for a musical journey.
Arcturus Aspera Hiems Symfonia
A black metal classic. A must hear for any fan of the genre. To quote allmusic.com: "A graceful mixture of classical majesty and black metal brooding and aggression."
Comus First Utterance
A must hear for any fan of prog rock and/or folk. This album will scare the shit out of you while its beauty takes your breath away and its lyrics make you wanna kill yourself. Good stuff!
Cryptopsy None So Vile
Genesis Selling England by the Pound
An album that deserves to be recognized along side other great classic rock albums as Led Zeppelin IV, Dark Side of the Moon, and Paranoid.
Gong Angel's Egg
Katatonia Night Is the New Day
My favorite of the year
maudlin of the Well Part the Second
Progressive in every sense of the word. Covers all bases from post-rock to floydian flourishes to RIO style compositions to prog metal licks. Nice.
Mercyful Fate Don't Break the Oath
An absolute classic which helped lay the groundwork for thrash, black metal, death metal, power metal and so much more. Continues to influence bands to this day.
My Dying Bride Songs of Darkness, Words of Light
The album that got me into My Dying Bride in the first place. I never knew how beautiful despair could be before i heard this. A personal favorite.
Pestilence Consuming Impulse
Queen A Night at the Opera
Sleepytime Gorilla Museum Of Natural History
Soft Machine The Soft Machine
Soundgarden Badmotorfinger
Talk Talk Laughing Stock
Weakling Dead as Dreams
An amazing work of black metal art. Proof that american black metallers could compete with their european brethren (before black metal was even a big deal in the US). One of the best since '00.
