My first review on this website and just by giving a 3 out of 5 to the infamous brokencyde Im guessing Im bound to get a lot of heat by other users. But before you bash on me hear me out: why did I gave brokencyde a 3 out 5 rating?
"I'm not a fan but the kids like it" is the second album by brokencyde and while the first one already had originated a lot of controversy this second one actually managed to bring back the haters in full war mode. They kept the same formula of mixing auto tune beats with rap and screamo, most people cant seem to stand it, teenagers like it. Well in my view they're music and attitude seen all along this album has so many good things as bad ones. In 17 tracks the auto tunes spills out beats that dont seem to change during the entire song, in a couple of songs this beats are actually catchy, like 40 OZ or Booty Call but in others it seems they keet it as simple as they could, either that or its just lack of imagination by those 4 guys. Anyway over the beats se7en does screamo pretty much all the time, and not always in the best way, he always uses the same type of vocal range, and the way he mixes his vocals with the beat is poorly done. Mikl has a better voice and does some decent hip hop/rap vocals. Yet they managed somehow to deliver some good party songs, FreaXXX, 40 OZ, Booty Call and Get Crunk! are by far the best the album has to offer since Se7en actually does some good screamo and the beats are catchy. As for the other songs in the album I truly gave them a shot, but after listening to them several times none stood out, the screamo gets repetitve just like the auto tune and synth beats.
With only a handful of decent songs what else is there good in this album? Well first of all I have to give my respect to brokencyde to actually manage to do a better album than they're previous one "The Broken" and for keeping the same line of work despite all the haters and critics. As for the lyrics they talk about getting wasted, partying and having casual sex. Once again while this is good ad works in a party for teenagers (the kind of audience brokencyde is aiming for) its not what you want to hear to chill out or simply enjoy music. So this album doesnt stand out but I cant consider this to be bad music either, they have decent crunckcore songs that will appeal to they're target audience and a good solid production value. If you arent into crunkcore and you arent a teenager stay away from this album, you will hate the lyrics and the vocals all around. But anyone that sees this in an objective point of view will realize that this is an average work by the band Brokencyde. |
