Unfortunatley for Pearl Jam every album they create will be compared to Ten, Vs and (to an extent) Vitalogy and will never be quite as good, which is a shame because Backspacer is in fact a f^%$ing awesome album. It showcases just about everything they can do as a band, from the mello “Just Breathe” and “The End”, to the energetic “Got Some” and “Supersonic” and then there’s the powerful and uplifting “Force of Nature” and “Amoungst the Waves” the later of which is like a re-invention of “Given To Fly”. The only thing not on this album is dud songs, there’s nothing like “Bugs” or “Hey Foxymophandleman, that’s me” which ruined albums like Vitalogy. Unlike the majority of their other albums there are only highlights on Backspacer and although its only 36 minutes long it delivers more than any album since Yield. Backspacer is a return to form for Pearl Jam and it proves to the world that they are still one of the best rock ‘n’ roll bands of this generation.
