The cheesy high-school poetry they stick in the liner notes very rarely has anything to do with the indecipherable screaming on the record. That's fine for a band like this. It's all about the overall effect. In that regard, they blow it on this record. I feel a little better knowing that the cornball faux-slayer leads can be mostly be blamed on the lame guest musicians but still....on a converge album?? They used to be above that sorta thing. And let's get real: everything post-Jane-Doe has more or less been a retread. There have been slight tweaks and improvements in the sound but nothing as dramatic as the leap from "When Forever Come Crashing" and "Jane Doe". This really hasn't been a problem until now. Sure, there are moments where they're leaner and meaner than ever before (the title track for instance) but for the most part all the extra ingredients just gum up the works. Oh btw, the last two tracks are absolute garbage. Get it together you fucks!
