The Chariot One Wing
Considering The Chariot is one of the more overrated bands in the hardcore scene, I
definitely approached this album with low expectations. And perhaps that made the listening
experience better for me, but this album exceeded my every expectation; The Chariot proved
that they could play hardcore far and beyond the lofty standards that many listeners
believed Long Live set. Chaotic and frenetic, the band exercises an impressive musical
acumen, sporting thunderous, chugging riffs among haunting piano melodies, providing
humorous yet classy reprieves from the bedlam when necessary, and marrying unbridled
hardcore with a lively western passage on one of the year's best songs, "First".

Two fantastic guitarists who made some excellent music. To give the album such a low rating is unfair, as the musicality soars far above and beyond what a 3.5 may entail, but I unfortunately cannot see myself listening to this very often. The type of album that you love, but only listen to once every few months or so. It is for this reason that I gave it a 3.5.

How convenient that my rating for this album just happened to be my 69th album rating. No it was not intentional... It just happened that way :D
This album is funny as hell; not going to lie. Musically, it's decent at best. Some great metal moments seem to tease the listener here and there but never do anything truly substantial. The skits are all very funny and keep the listener excited throughout the album. The reason this isn't a 3 is because the band complects the comedy and the music so well throughout the album that the listener's attention is held very well, but it's not a 4 because musically, it's lacking in quality substance. Still a very fun listen though.

Not a whole lot of melo-death; the album relies heavily upon the dance music to create the melodic sound, and the result is a nice amalgam of sounds. The vocalist sounds so much like Anders Friden it's not even funny, and the guitars complement the dance music nicely. Neither overpowers the other, for the most part. Not too technical, but not too bad. A good fun album that you can throw on at almost any time.

The band itself is really good and enjoyable to listen to, but they need to ditch the
vocalist. He is completely unemotive and his voice is just not made for being a lead singer.
Even when he strains it on "Angeldust" it just comes off as really amateur and unenjoyable.
The jazz element is fantastic and this band really makes great music, their sound is
unfortunately just hampered (strongly) by their poor vocalist.

Didn't live up to the obscenely high expectations the world had for it, but it was still a rsolid album. Royce is a great MC, but the album could have been better. Even still, the rforgettable moments on the album are overshadowed by some great lines and songs. Hopefully rthe next album won't take nearly a decade to drop, and we can see Royce release something rthat proves he is as good we know he can be.

Though this effort concentrates more on the music than the humorous skits, it still produces some funny songs, as well as a few technically satisfying songs. Still though, it doesn't accomplish its primary task (humor) quite as well as its predecessor.

Keefer Time Trap
Dude has a nice flow and a good voice for rapping, which is really nice. But his lyrics are pretty bland and aren't particularly substantive. The few bars that do try to stand out aren't very clever or special. Beats are mediocre, but there's definite potential for Keefer as a lyricist, considering he's got a good flow and delivery, and his lyrics are not bad, per se. They just aren't anything to write home about.

Mastodon Crack the Skye
The album certainly isn't dense enough for me to be even considering the possibility of a premature judgment. So then, why did Crack the Skye leave me disappointed?
Though the album has some standout tracks riddled with layers of fun guitar work, the rest of the album left much to be desired. At least half of the album was extremely tedious to listen to, and at times it just seemed like too long and unnecessary. Despite all this, the first few tracks are great, and the title track is host to the best vocal performance on the album. Definitely worth listening to, but not as great as everyone expected it to be. Crack the Skye is a solid release at best.

Vocalist can sing four notes in two different orders and that's all. Band has potential, but it suffers from having no diversity from song to song. There are a few standout moments on the album, but they last no more than twenty seconds. The band uses the same formula for the rest of the album, and the listener is left bored.

Album is as fucking useless as the band's moniker. Easily the disappointment of the year. Not a single good track... It would appear that the band has no redeeming qualities. Not even their "godly" line-up.
If, for some reason, you're still wanting to check this album out, I guess I should let you know what you're in for. It's a terrible combination of mainstream rock and country, with the occasional uninspired guitar solo. Pretty generic drumming (but then again, how are you going to have good drumming on a country album), and pathetic songwriting. It's hard to listen to the entire album in one sitting, unless you're not paying attention at all.
