I give the New York Sessions version full marks. I have not heard the full album in its standard shape, but the simple guitar/bass/organ/harmonica versions of You're A Big Girl Now and Idiot Wind are timeless. I wish he had left the tracks that way for the main release.

One of the greatest albums of all time as far as I am concerned. Totally unique, musically faultless and lyrically mind-blowing. She makes most music seem bland.
Johnny Cash At Folsom Prison
Johnny Flynn A Larum
A timeless collection of songs. Johnny sticks resolutely to his roots on this great debut album. The songs are beautiful arranged and very earthy, as you would hope from a folk album, and the album is wonderfully english too. His roots as a Shakespearian actor are clear in his clever wordplay, and often obscure word choices. The key element to the albums greatness is in the perfect melodies.

There are great songs here. Usually the ones with the most Lisa Hannigan though. She is just an angel. Her voice is heartbreakingly lovely. Highlights for me are The Blowers Daughter, Cold Water, I Remember and Eskimo. However I find it hard to get past the relatively poor guitar playing (many songs are basically the same chord sequences for one) and also the lyrics. Whilst honesty is respectable, sometimes it feels very 'sixth form poetry' (high school for you 'mericans) and a whole album of heartbreak is tedious. So three stars for the above, exceptional songs. And Lisa Hannigan.

hmm, great songs and great playing undoubtedly, but woefully over produced. Really lets this album down. I'd rather just watch Live At The El Mocambo if feel like some SRV. In any case you need to SEE him play not just hear him.
