The album was diverse and had all the great Emery Trademarks like good keyboards and dual vocals, but yet was so different then The Question. Emery reinvented themselves in a good way. When While Broken Hearts Prevail came out I was at first kind of disappointed, it seemed like Emery went back to their roots because their fans forced them. Well with In Shallow Seas We Sail, That is obviously not the case. They combined everything I loved about I’m Only A Man, the diversity and strong melodious, and combined it with what Emery knows best, screaming. They are the archetype of a screamo band. With the layered Vocals of screaming and singing, the band sounds more harmonious then ever. The Guitars are heavy and the drumming is frantic. My only real gripe about the record is the lyrics. They never really stray from that whiney, emo tone of being miserable and depressed about women. Even with that, the band manages to make them come off strong and mature, not whiney and adolescent. Emery did a great job with this release and this album is exactly what they are about musically.
