A versatile, mature and heartfelt symphony of melodies and honest emotions, paired with astonishingly beautiful jazzy moments. Fine musicians crafted a lasting, inspiring and fleet-footedly delivered piece of art that really seems to deserve the term 'art' more than any other record in 2010. I am speechless looking in the face of this magnificent work.

Emmure Speaker Of The Dead
Surprisingly interesting output by a band that reached it's bottom with their latest record 'Felony'. On the one hand 'Speaker Of The Dead' is an incredibly brutal and heavy ride with some outstanding tracks like 4 Poisons 3 Words, Lights Bring Salvation and their two singles. And on the other hand it features weak, replaceable material like Area 64-66 or My Name Is Thanos and shows a kind of undeniable redundancy in breakdowns and overall musicianship after examining the whole length and consistency of the record in detail. In terms of production, it's easily Sturgis' best work ever. The bass lines are perfectly audible, dubstep elements, electronic parts and samples fit nicely and the general groove knows how to be hypnotizing and tight at once. All in all not really an excellent record, but a great one for Palmeri & Sons. Their third best, placing shortly after 'The Respect Issue'. 3.8

Gideon Milestone
I am sorry for all 'generic'-proclaimers but this record is not mindless chugging, it's chugging on purpose. On purpose of emotion, anger and hope. It utilizes brutality to showcase feelings and it does damn well. Consider records like FURY AND THE FALLEN ONES (The Ghost Inside), CHANGES (For The Fallen Dreams) or MESSENGERS (August Burns Red) - yes, it's that good of a chugfest. If The Ghost Inside would play great breakdowns on their new CD (which they don't!), these would sound like the Gideon ones over here. Awesome intervals and time signatures e.g. like at the end of "Bad Blood" aren't the usual metalcore listen, because not every band is capable of bringing technical skills to the table when it comes to junz. What's left is a hilariously straight forward record that features some of the finest modern mosh moments imaginable. A huge improvement from COSTS and definitely a record that makes you wanna break stuff afterwards and/or during the listen. Give it a spin and don't hesitate to move your body. Brain off, junz on.

record rules, stop bitchin'. "Starving For Friends" may possibly be the best post-hardcore song in a really long time - "Those Who Stand For Nothing Fall For Everything" falls just a little bit short in that regard. also, who of you guys knew that their drummer was in Four Letter Lie and that jonnys sister can sing too, hm? I bet no one. now hush hush, off with you to hipster-hateland. and don't forget to hide your precious macbooks, because the king is finally back on track.
Rain City Drive Routine Breathing
Rain City Drive Beautiful Death
Rammstein Sehnsucht
Sehnsucht is truly so much better than Herzeleid, it's sick...Better production (not good but at least bearable), much more hits, better lyrics (sometimes really scary and politically incorrect like on Spiel Mit Mir), great melodic lines that are different and distinctive on every track...my goodness. A whole nother level. They finally sat down in the studio, took a lot more time, and rigorously considered which songs should be included and which should be cut because they are ballast anyway. Top notch choices on here. Their second best overall after Mutter.

The Dangerous Summer Gravity
Gravity ranks among their best works ever. The album has close to no skips and basically
consists of only bops. Happy summer-melodies, dreamy fall-tunes, big choruses that become
immediate earworms after your first spin, circular canons that let your jaw drop, and even
tear-inducing moments of sheer sadness and beauty. The cover artwork might be bad and
totally unrelated to the music, absolutely, but the music itself certainly isn't bad at all.
It's a return to form in the best possible way, a huge, tremendous success, and something I
will definitely still listen to in 30 years if god gives me that much more time. Cheers

sadly but certainly my least favourite DGD LP so far. it's not bad by any means, but they rsimply wanted too much at once with this one. completely random, loony tracks that don't rfit like young robot, flossie dickey bounce(!) or petting zoo justice; mellow tilian rsoloartist-songs like here comes the winner(!) or exposed; balladesque songs like man of rthe year; or stadium-singalong-baits like frozen one/chocolate jackalope. god damn. if it rweren't for good old DGD epicness like in chucky..., deception, philosopher king or rinspire the liars, I would think this is just a hasty output, rushed by studio bosses in rthe background. - next time more time will! make us wait and make it worth the wait.

The new Emarosa is like a cupcake. You know you're sinning and eating tons of unhealthy sugar, but in the end it tastes sweet and good. The record is so consistently and catchily built around melody that it almost becomes cheesy. Musically, they move in the poppy waters of Michael Jackson meets Modern Talking. But you know what? It works. And it tastes good. For hits like Again or Rush alone, it's worth listening to. Just don't get turned off by the 80s flair that immediately presents itself. Have fun listening.

a good candidate for the introduction of the numerical value 3.75 here on sputnik. it's really not 'excellent', but surely kind of better than 'great'. it does not feel generic, even by definitely being generic at some parts. it's neither fish nor fowl. it's just a catchy record that clearly overshadowes the previously released EP of a band that hugely showcases something what - in the majority of cases - we like to call: potential.

Leaving Man of the Woods in the dust, JT finally comes back to the heights of The 2020 Experience. A sexy, laid-back, and surprisingly self-aware record dealing with regret and mistakes regarding women. The oldest topic in the book, I know, but at least he shows some sense of repentance, which takes balls and is appreciated. He's still got the vocal chops of a generation and in the tracks where he isn't using autotune to pander to the modernity of the radio scene, he shows them big time. Kudos Justin, you crazy bastard - you turned it around.

Novelists Demos (2013–2014)
Novelists Déjà Vu
I mean, let's be real here. Lost Cause is probably one of the best Metalcore songs ever
made, hands down. As is Heretic. Smoke Signals, Made by Design, and Terrorist are bangers.
The Answer and Track 10 are fine, you can take or leave them. But the five interludes are
just a bit much for a record running only 34 minutes in total, granted. Therefore, it should
better have been a 7-track-EP, then it would be a 4.5. Now it's just a 3.5 to 4. A bit sad
they didn't show us more regular tracks, because Deja Vu could have been an AOTY
contender...
Novo Amor Birthplace
Amazing, heartfelt music for dreamers. Honestly one of the best one man projects I have ever heard. If you like toned-down stuff like Slingshot Dakota, Weaver at the Loom or old Coldplay and don't want to lack the creativity of someone like Jonsi or Cloudkicker, look no further and get this record.

The Browning OMNI
I respect Panzerchrist and hotsoap as the users they are, I truly do, and I hold their opinions highly, but here I have to respectfully disagree with them. Because so far, The Browning has always been a clown posse. It has been their whole identity and shtick. Dumb, fun metalcore with an extreme amount of electronic parts that you shouldn't take too seriously. But OMNI is different. The Browning have really matured as a band on here and take their entire concept to a new level. HIVEMIND alone is one of the best songs of the year, POISON is equally amazing, and the mindbending closer SOUL DRIFT puts this record over the finish line as an AOTY contender. They are way more diverse, feature way better songwriting, include progressive ideas, man...this album has it all. Even features of beloved scene maven Nik Nocturnal as well as the angelic voice of Moon from THE DEFECT. TLDR - Their best work yet for sure.

I really don't understand all the hate that this album gets. "Room To Breathe" is arguably the best song YMA6 has ever done and features an astonishingly great Dead Letter Circus-vibe. Also "Win Some, Lose Some" is an excellent track plus "Wild Ones" marks the best closer in a long, long while. Then we have tracks 1, 4, 7, 8, 9 who are just hella fun and bring spring right into your minds....idk. Ultimately there is just so little filler material (10, 11) that I would strongly recommend you to give Cavalier Youth another spin or two. Blend out the name(s) and reputation, just for once.

A Day To Remember For Those Who Have Heart
A Day To Remember What Separates Me From You
Calmer and softer than Homesick, coevally feeling kinda rushed. Overall a quite catchy pop-punk output with very few core elements left and a really short running time. I don't know if I am liking this direction much. Leaving it a 3.5 for now, maybe downgrading it to 2.5-3 after the next few listens.

A Plea for Purging The Marriage Of Heaven And Hell
Surprisingly good and nice atmosphere over here. Definitely a huge step up from the mediocre and bland 'Depravity', which also had a much creepier production. The vocals are fine, the breakdowns enjoyable and the meshuggah riffing continues for the better. No milestone and nothing new at all, but in terms of progression, color me surprised.

more like a 3.75. this record is really great. close to awaken the dreamers but more straightforward, even with the memberchanges. slightly worse than suicide silence's new though. and no competition with BoO/beheading of a king/circle of contempt because ASP are deathcore and want to be deathcore, no future-tech-ambient-chugridden-metal-deathcore ,) these bands can coexist without any difficulty. ps: I forgot - the record itself is definitely too long.

Allt From the New World
Being overproduced as hell, overusing programming, and relying on studio magic on every single vocal technique drag this down a notch. Otherwise, this is a great record with some killer songs and intriguingly progressive songwriting. Let's hope they dial the artificial tendencies down a bit plus get a more down to earth mastering for their next record, because then we could be in for a masterpiece.

Bilmuri Kinda Hard
A length of one minute and of thirty seconds
are not songs. Especially not when they're
right in the beginning and in the middle of an
album. Back in my day, skits like this were
fittingly called INTRO and INTERLUDE,
respectively. Sad they're sold as real songs
now. Even sadder that they are the only two
HARD songs on a record that is titled KINDA
HARD lol. So I guess the record should rather
be called KINDA SOFT because all the other
eleven tracks are mellow as hell, as ever with
Bilmuri. Which is totally fine for me, really,
I just had other expectations after reading the
name and hearing the intro. Tl,dr - Feels like
a b-side of the last record. Great scraps, but
not an amazing dish.

Solid live output of a band playing relatively consistent over the last couple of years. One song more out of "Impossibility Of Reason" for one "Infection"-song would not have been that bad, but overall nice choice of hits. Tone quality is fine, DVD with 7 hours+ bonus material is sick. All in all a very pleasing collection for a fan and nicely intriguing to newcomers.

Elitist Between The Balance
Better than Caves, worse than Earth & Reshape Reason. Dunno what is happening to their vocals though - they seem to change heavily from CD to CD. Caves was very hardcoreish, Earth crazy brutal/low and since one year we mostly get this half-high Northlane-like screams. No one can change his fronter this often. I guess he must have gotten out of puberty or something... Overall an interesting release that mixes Djent with Metal and Metalcore without getting too generic, always pulling something like a solo, melodic keys or the like off the cuff. Even while not catching me to a one hundred per cent degree at all times, Between The Balance definitely marks their most versatile and mature effort yet.

a letdown considering In Shallow Seas. I hate Devin Shelton for leaving this band, seriously. the circumstance of two clean vocalists was the key factor that made Emery special, just like e.g. Mayday Parade. both bands screwed it. good job. not. aside from all that the record is fine in what it does. but it is just sad that they wasted so much potential. hopefully this will turn out as a grower in the end.

ERRA Cure
For sure their weakest overall record yet, which is not saying much, considering that ERRA is and always has been the spearhead of modern metalcore following the tried and true, cookie cutter formula of progressive riffs, breakdowns, growls and the obligatory clean chorus inbetween. Since 15 years they are basically doing the Killswitch Engage routine with better production, better technicality, and more hard-hitting emotional highs as well as bits of brutality. Their breakdowns are just heavier, as well as played more brainy - think Misery Signals (but not entirely on the level on the latter). Unfortunately though, all in all it's getting a bit stale by now. The formula has worn off. 2024's ERRA seem write songs as if they're on autopilot. As if the studio had said, we need a new album by tomorrow - get going guys! Which is a little sad because we as the listeners don't get banger hits like Snowblood, House of Glass, Breach, Skyline, Hybrid Earth, or White Noise anymore. Which is unfortunate, as I already said. Still worth your while though for sure, especially if you're into modern metalcore and just can't get enough from this particular muscial trope.

Eyes Roll Back may very well be the hardest track they have ever released, even heavier than the stuff from their debut LP. An amazing listen. 10 out of 5 for me. Unfortunately, the rest of the album falls a bit flat and follows the same clean-laden formula that hold The Path back, too. There are some single sparks of greatness here and there, yes, but overall it's classic FFAK going soft. I hope the next record sounds more like Dark Skies again. Still give it a spin if you're into cookie cutter Metalcore.

Thank god it's better than Back Burner. The cleans are often times misplaced but not as annoying as they were used to be. Lowlights are certainly weaklings like NO ONE TO BLAME or WAKING UP ALONE but fortunately the album also features tracks like YOUR FUNERAL, SOBER or WHEN PUSH COMES TO SHOVE which showcase that not all talent of a former "genre/niche giant" is lost. A bearable listen for die hard junz-fans that are capable to fade out some choruses here and there plus people that have swallowed the bitter pill of FOR THE FALLEN DREAMS' kind of "downhill progression", if you even want to call it like that.

Lorna Shore Flesh Coffin
Lorna Shore Pain Remains
Pros - great technicality all-around, very versatile vocals, sick solos, some good songwriting ideas, sporadic bombast-feel of certain tracks. Cons - way too long, bad production, songs get samey after repeated listens, synths are overdone and annoying as hell, slightly uninspired breakdowns that seem to follow the same formula over and over. If you want better Death in your Deathcore but remain as technical, maybe give Brand of Sacrifice or Archspire a go. If you want better Core in your Deathcore and tone the instrumental wankery down a notch, try Thy Art Is Murder. All three are slightly better imho and just make music that is more consistent. Lorna Shore want too much at once here for my taste. That being said, Pain Remains is not a bad record by any means. I've just head better Deathcore albums during my lifetime.

Afterimage is a track I very much enjoy and that flows exactly in the middle of these two poles for me. Therefore, I can enjoy this for what it is - a fun little collection of ideas, a musical brainfart of sorts, where not every idea has been fully developed before recording it. Now let's make another album and show us if you're capable of greatness again, my fellow Aussies.

Oh, Sleeper When I Am God
Oh, Sleeper Children of Fire
This seems like a typical grower to me. Despite of 3-4 tracks, Children of Fire is not really accessible and furthermore not as catchy as expected. A long term listen. For now, it's a good 3.5 for me. Might grow and advance to a finite 4, but as I said - this will most probably need some time and concentration/focus. At the moment it is slightly behind Son of the Morning.

Stolas Living Creatures
Worse than A Lot Like Birds, worse than Hail The Sun, worse than Dance Gavin Dance but still way above average. They did not get everything out of the features imo and also they did kind of a fail tracklisting, giving four of the five features away in tracks 7-10 instead of being smart and mixing them more apart from each other. Aside from 'Our Last Night On Earth' and 'Year Of The Light' also lacking real hits for me...dunno. If this would have been a random band, not pushed and hyped that much (e.g. by Will Swan himself) I would not even give them several more spins. A semi-letdown for me in 2013.

Ten After Two Truth Is...
Underrated with a 3, overrated with a 3.5. Probably a 3.25-thing. Even if they come with great technique and good ideas, Ten After Two aren't able to grab me at first listen. They certainly delivered a fine record here, but I would heavily suggest them to work on their catchiness and accessibilty.

The Contortionist Intrinsic
It's not what I expected, nor what I hoped for. This does not necessarily mean that the record is bad, not by any means, but it is certainly not anything fans or long time Contortionist listeners would most likely demand from them. EXOPLANET was a heavy deathcore experience with intelligent time signatures, crisp breakdowns and crystal clear ambient/progressive elements, maintaining a good balance between clean singing and harsh growling and/or screaming. But INTRINSIC is more of a progressive metal record that relies heavily on spacy and lofty riffing, keys and ambient tuning while giving a lot of room for cleans only. Comparing these two, one definitely finds a certain lack of heavy parts, featuring very little breakdowns and growled segments at all. Also, when The Contortionist tries to be brutal on INTRINSIC (e.g. on SOLIPSIS or at the middle of CORTICAL) they fail, completely exaggerating it on the brawly, noisy side. So all in all I did not know or could have imagined that TC were going fully progressive/ambient after their first album snippets, but it is not the change I had longed for, at least not in such extent. Finally, INTRINSIC is not average at all and actually pretty good in what it wants to deliver, but it does just not appease my musical appetite and all in all it's just too dull and constant to fully grab or entertain me. In other words: it's a bit boring in all it's consistency. 'Lost in space', one could say.

The Parallel (CAN) Weaver
at parts extremely great, at parts a bit over-ambitious. they want too much at once. modern, proggy tech metalcore cousins Northlane, Invent Animate, Erra and the like...but also deathcore tunes like in Brand of Sacrifice or Chelsea Grin are prevalent here. even electronic bits can be found. it's just too much for a debut, it's not consistent. all this variation keeps it from true greatness. don't get me wrong: it's a good record and the drummer is an absolute beast - but give this band one or two more albums and we have 4.5+ potential right here.
The Plot In You First Born
really enjoyable for a "standard" newschool/scene metalcore record. nice cleans and overall interesting for the fallen dreams-fake with a weaker shouter but less breakdownwanking.

The amazing features (Jason Butler, Caleb Shlomo, Mark Hoppus, Travis Barker) as well as great sonic experiments like in Darkness Bleeds FOTF, Cathedral Bell, Gravity's Rainbow, or Clean Cut Heals keep it from being your run-of-the-mill-The Used record of late. It's mainstream now, sure, but definitely better than average and although featuring 16 tracks not that overly long as everyone says (46mins is totally fine imho). If you would insist, I could agree to cut some filler songs or stuff that didn't work like Paradise Lost, Big Wanna Be, My Cocoon, and Wow I Hate This Song(sic!).

Volumes Via
more near to a 3 than to a 4. two fillerintro's, two rehashed tracks and six forgettable songs, leaving us with only two new outstanders from this record which is much too less considering their previous work. our sad result: the EP was much better, not productionwise but in terms of musicianship and consistency. nevertheless this is no bad listen at all and still one of the flagship's of modern day's djent. but as we see they wasted tons of their potential...

Wir Sind Helden Bring Mich Nach Hause
Wir Sind Helden Soundso
To get this out of the way - Ode An Die Arbeit and Fuer Nichts Garantieren are two of my
most-hated German songs of all time. They are unnerving, extremely repetitive, and feature
weak, first-time male backing vocals for Wir Sind Helden since their inception. So when I
initially heard these two tracks, I thought to myself that this album is going to be one of
the biggest trainwrecks in modern German music history. But fortunately, I guessed
incorrectly. Because aside from additional filler material that slows the record down like
for instance Der Krieg Kommt Schneller Zurueck Als Du Denkst or Lass Uns Verschwinden, we
can find some true gems on here. Soundso and Labyrinth alone are two of the best songs the
band has ever written. I would even go as far as to say that they would be German pop rock
classics, if Wir Sind Helden were a bit more widely known. Also Die Konkurrenz, Haende Hoch,
and Stiller are wonderful additions to their song portfolio that they can choose from what
to play live. Overall, this third album is slightly weaker than their firstling Die
Reklamation, but certainly a bit more mature than their sophomore Von Hier An Blind,
although the latter certainly featured more successful mainstream hits.
Within the Ruins Elite
naaaah bloc, Invade was much rougher, sounding way more evil and not even coming close to the catchiness of this one. it's a step up for Within The Ruins, without bringing anything original to the table. 'I, Blaspheme' is a nice highlight with the programmed guitars but that's about it. from 3 to 3.5 for me.

65daysofstatic Wild Light
The first song "Heat Death Infinity Splitter" is so badass, I can't even believe my ears. I love it. Unfortunately, the rest of the record is as bland and boring as it can get. 5 to 7+ minute tracks only that get more repetitive and thoughtless with every skip. tl;dr: 65daysofstatic continue to spiral downwards, which is a complete bummer.
A Bullet for Pretty Boy Symbiosis
unfortunately its not as diverse as Revision:Revise was and additionally there are only two or three songs which aren't generic and boring at all. also the cleans have gone worse - don't ask me why..basically you get what you expect by purchasing this record: nothing groundbreaking nor fun, but a slight-above-average modern post-hc/metalcore output from a band that constantly seems to match the genre mean.

Their weakest effort yet. Some songs are just plain annoying like the samey 'Behold The Crown' or the one-note Djentfest 'To Challenge Existence' and others are just neither catchy nor impressive (2, 3, 5, 6). It's bland metalcore with weak vocals galore. The only good songs are the pulsing 'The Great Repeat', the pounding closer 'A Pulse Exchanged' and - ironically - the instrumental interlude 'In Flux'. What a shame. After The Burial continue their downwards trend after all the member changes.

good and promising debut EP of a band I would like to rename into "Little Volumes". they kind of rely on the sound of last-mentioned band in 2-3 of their songs and even deliver a feature with the Volumes-shouter on one of them. unfortunately the actual djent parts are very rare and sparely used which could be an issue to fix for a possibly following full length. all in all the deathcore portion is still too high to really shine in a crowded and flooded genre like this.

A plain, totally obvious Rage against the Machine-fake. Nothing more and nothing less. If you dig old RATM and can overlook the open plagiarism, this could be a record for you. If you don't sign point one or two, you will probably despise this album. I am sitting right in the middle, loving RATM but hating unoriginality. Therefore I am giving Time To Move a 3.

Mayday Parade Black Lines
mature? yes. but catchy? not really. mayday parade sold their soul to show progress, but I really don't know if this is a good thing for a band that has a legendary-status in jolly pop punk. Nasty Heartbreak Criminals
It's becoming a bit stale at this point. The relatively weak cleans don't change the fact that you can only play so many double bass, stopped by tons of beatdown breakdowns. Maybe change up the formula more? Or go back to the sheer brutality of older records. Idk. Kiss from a Rose isn't the answer by the way, that much I can tell you for sure. You're not Aerosmith guys.

Of Virtue Omen
Basically a death sentence to their own identity. There is nothing left of their earth-shattering brutality as well as their creative songwriting back in the Heartsounds- and Salvation-days. As hinted on the terrible What Defines You already and cranking this sonical choice up to one hundred, Of Virtue has gone full sellout now. Mainstream to appeal to the masses. Poppy choruses wherever you look, way less growls, way less heavy riffing, way fewer breakdowns, no more progressiveness, softer production...the list goes on and on. What you have to give them credit for is two things though. Firstly, they are still capable of writing absolute bangers that never leave your ear, even weeks after the first listen. And secondly, at least they're consistent in their new style and follow it through to the very end. The entirety of Omen sounds so consistent, you can skip from song two to song seven and know immediately that this is the same record, which is a positive in my opinion. The producer did a good job to at least give their new self a coherent style. Therefore I am changing my rating from a 2 to a 3. They found their niche and people who enjoy this kind of music, for instance fans of new Of Mice and Men, Dayshell, and the like, will most probably very much dig this.

Call me when they have finally decided on a genre. This mushy mix of death metal, deathcore, grindcore, metalcore, slam, black metal, and whatnot is just inconsistent as all getout. On each and every single song they need to throw in the kitchen sink as if their lives depended on it. The features they bought are amazing and there are some creative ideas that actually work, but overall a bit more streamlining would have helped this record tremendously. Or in other words - next time get a producer on board that actually guides you through the process and hits back at you when your plan goes awry.

Strangers Holding Water
for a KARL SCHUBACH production, the sound of this EP is total shit. everything is just too quiet and only the first 29 seconds of the opening track really shine in terms of mastering. after these I thought to myself 'dear god, what will follow now?' and then I had to face this particular disappointment. Whatever, the songs LAKE NYOS and SEVEN PERSONS really stand out and don't fail to disappoint at all, so ultimately the cd comes out as a little dig of mine.

Masterpieces like Death Grip and Split as well as the interesting experiment of Cityscapes
shake hands with the most mainstream copy of Linkin Park I have ever heard by any metalcore
band ever, namely Wash It Away. If you close your eyes while listening to the latter,
Chester literally becomes alive again. I am not even fucking kidding. Why a VERY well-
respected and basically unhateable band in the genre (not only because of coming back from
their haunting and soul-crushingly sad past) does a shitty choice like this and basically
betrays their own hardcore slash metal roots so much that it's pure sellout is beyond me,
but that is something they will have to work out for themselves. Maybe they got pressured by
the label, maybe they just want more money aka broaden their fanbase with a crowbar, or
maybe they just want to play Rock im Park now, I don't know. But it's a choice I will have
to tolerate for now. There are still many redeeming qualities to find on Searching for
Solace and I will give them the benefit of a doubt. If their next album is another Fury and
the Fallen Ones, we can all grab a cold one again together.
The Heliocentrics 13 Degrees Of Reality
The Hirsch Effekt Holon : Hiberno
The Hirsch Effekt Holon: Anamnesis
The Hirsch Effekt Kollaps
Their most easily accessible, but unfortunately
also their weakest album yet imho. The short
runtimes really hurt the creative possibilities
of the songs, most math-heavy prog is gone, and
the tonalities are all over the place as well.
There is no clear focus, no greater idea, while
electronics go hand-in-hand with Nu Metal- and
even Djent-ingratiations. Of course there are
occasional bright spots as well, like for
instance the ending of AGERA, the epic buildup of
TORKA, or the
grandiose title track KOLLAPS overall - but
firstly, this is a Hirsch Effekt record after
all, so did you really expect a complete failure
guys - and secondly, these are also three of the
only long tracks of the album. This speaks to the
theory that THE simply need longer songs to fully
shine. Anyway. It's a letdown considering their
amazing discography, but it's still better than
most contemporary German progressive post-
hardcore. Curious to see them live this year and
check out their energy iRL.
The Maine Pioneer
the maine finally start to progress and mature. listen to the bridge of "When I'm At Home" or "Waiting For My Sun To Shine" to get your proof. unfortunately there are overall too many fillertracks for a 3.5-rating.

The Rendering Protector
The Rendering Voices
A slight improvement from Protector, but for their next output they should get rid of the synths and massive scene approaches. 3.25 because they know how to play their instruments and have some Legend/Acacia Strain vibes at times (e.g. listen to "End" in full).

Unearth The Wretched; The Ruinous
Boring and uninspired. I can't help but think I've heard this record already back in 2008. Fortunately it's Unearth, so the musicianship is there and saves The Wretched The Ruinous from true mediocrity. Final question - what on god's good earth happened to Trevor Phipps? He sounds so weak and tired...my god. These lows are so high and shallow, they can't even be called low growls anymore. A ghost of his former self.

Vampire Weekend Only God Was Above Us
Sonically as well as creatively, this is a masterful achievement, absolutely no doubt here. But for my personal taste and the music I currently mostly listen to and enjoy, Only God Was Above Us just features too many twirls and squiggles. A single song includes approximately ten different ideas and that is not needed for an indie record imho, not even if you're suddenly Bjork-levels of avantgarde now. Still big respect for these guys. At least they have the balls to reach for the stars.

some shiners but very short and a little bit boring overall. with a paramore-like songstress and old mayday parade'sk dual vocals there could have been done much more tbh.
We Are The In Crowd Weird Kids
After a somewhat slow and mediocre start (1-4), Weird Kids manages to deliver a really solid middle part (5-7) and finishes with a decent but not overly convincing ending section (9-10). All in all, this is neither 'must have' nor 'shit', which leaves We Are The In Crowd's newest CD plainly in the forgettable/skippable-segment, just slightly above the average Pop Punk these days. Ps. Yes - there is slight progression - but it simply isn't enough to reach the finish line this time.

Overproduced, compression rate: over 9000, autotuned at parts/oftentimes heavily layered vocals, singing is not on par with legends of the genre (like the 'similar bands' would like us to believe), etc...just too much to hate here. But at least the songwriting is great and truly innovative to be honest. So it's better than the critical mass of the genre, sure, but only barely. They need a new producer asap imo.

even facing heavy inconsistencies in musicianship plus generic and mainstream

Bury Tomorrow Will You Haunt Me, With That Same Patience
A for effort, F for execution. This just isn't it. The new clean singer falls very flat, especially compared to the old one. He just sounds generic and with less air.rThe production is mushier than ever, very metallic and with a high compression rate. You're not br00tal just because you're louder guys. Brutality, if wanted, comes from musicianship and creative choices, not from exaggerated studio magic. Lastly, there isrtheir new tendency to try things out. While I appreciate the notion to finally - after seven effing records - stray away from the tried and tested verse-chorus-verse-chorus-breakdown-chorus syndrome that Bury Tomorrow suffered from, nu metal elements and a boatload of spoken words aren't it. They don't fit the modern metalcore era but rather appear like a cheap version of Emmure's weakest work, Felony. If you want to make nu metal, stick to it and do it all the way through, like a whole album - think Limp Bizkit's latest record, Still Sucks. Otherwise, if you just include elements here and there, people will hate it. And so do I. Worst offender here is the track called Villain Arc. Ah, and don't even get me started on the lyrics. Whoever decided to title this album Will You Haunt Me comma With That Same Patience should be strangled in his sleep. Absolutely redonkulous and lolbad. Scraping up a 2 point 5 here because of SOME signs of hope on the tracks What If I Burn, Waiting, Yokai, plus the closer. But each and every single one doesn't even clear the hurdle of being good, so...it cannot be a 3. Better luck next time boys.

Carnifex Die Without Hope
Aside from the closer, this is by far the most boring Deathcore record I have heard in the last 5+ years. If somebody really thinks this is any good, I would give him the well-meant advice to stop listening to bullshit and to try out really outstanding deathcore CDs instead, like for instance Thy Art Is Murder's "Hate", Whitechapel's selftitled, Fit For An Autopsy's "The Process of Human Extermination" or the last three Impending Doom albums. And no, this is by no means generic Carnifex-hate, I used to enjoy these guys back then and have been following the whole genre since it's formation.
Casper Lang lebe der Tod
Chelsea Grin My Damnation
album is really weak compared to Desolation Of Eden+EP. without the comparison it's still nothing special and just a boring deathcore record tbh. sad one for CG, to me it felt they had huge potential..
Chelsea Grin Eternal Nightmare
It's fine but nothing more...Tom should have stayed at Lorna Shore. Imho it's their second worst album after My Damnation. Even their last record had more things to enjoy because of better singles and overall the better breakdowns. This is more death metal than deathcore at times, which is not where Chelsea Grin can shine. They were great when they added in melody like in Evolve and Ashes to Ashes OR without melody via pure breakdown-fests like in Desolation of Eden, their selftitled EP or Self Inflicted. Eternal Nightmare is neither here nor there. It's half-assed, boring, samey and just features the occasional tad of greatness, which is simply not enough. The production is good though and Tom mostly shines. That's about it. Solid, but you're better off with their other CDs. 2.75 or smth out of sympathy.

dangerkids collapse
what fool have I been, tricking myself into thinking that other soundoffs could speak the
truth about certain pieces of music and that this particular cd could actually be good. man.
it isn't. it is merely a boring piece of standard metalcore with some rapping on it. yeah,
the MC does sound a little bit like mike shinoda - so what? this linkin park reference of
yours is just a distraction from the reality: that most of you haven't listened to classic
LP in a really long time; because hybrid theory, meteora & co eat this dangerkids record
alive and with ease. furthermore, I have heard at least fourty modern metalcore/post-
hardcore albums in the last two years that are far superior to this bland, boring, generic
and uncatchy dangerkids-mess. my goodness. just listen to our last night, memphis may fire,
palisades, dream on dreamer, issues, old woe is me etc etc. it's all the same, but better.
____________________________________________________________________________________________
now please get back on track and listen to "the real", good old linkin park again or at
least stop bothering with sub-par modern post-hardcore/metalcore mixes that can't keep up in
this already crowded genre.

Korn The Paradigm Shift
***damn guys, calm down. Yes, Untitled was horrible and yes, The Path of Totality totally lay out of their comfort zone, but: See You On The Other Side definitely broadened their musical horizon plus Korn III was definitely not bad either, what ultimately leaves us with just two out of their four last records being shit. Just because Head himself came back, everyone that stopped after Untouchables crawls out of their holes again and thinks their opinion truly matters. Gosh...now get your facts straight, catch up on these last albums and rate this one again - afterwards. If you would honestly do so, The Paradigm Shift would never in life get ratings above 3.5 - a CD featuring barely 50% tolerable material. I mean come on...Lullaby For A Sadist is the easy carry here and they wrote the song without Head. Also: if you turn the volume up and for one time stick to your good headphones, you would hear the loudness war that goes on in nearly every track, outshining the vocals and disturbing any harmony there is, for instance and especially prevalent with the dissonant synths at the chorus of Track 08, timestamps 1:11-1:33. They are fine before and after, but in the chorus, it just kills your ears. Plain and easy as that. Tl;dr: no guys, instead of listening to this mediocre record, I rather cry for my 'daddy' and 'follow the leader'...jm2c.

Lena Good News
This sophomore effort alarmingly showcases what is meant by the common term 'wasted potential', especially for a skilled songstress like Lena. 'Good News' features boring & tame songwriting and feels kinda rushed with this abrupt ending. On top of that it lacks the bluesy/jazzy touch of the forerunner and is not able to compensate the erstwhile hit frequency on 'My Cassette Player'. Apart from all that Lena is overall fortunately able to cover up the writing and carry the record with her warm voice and singing abilities. For the Eurovision Song Contest 2011, I would definitely have suggested to choose "A Million And One", which is easily the best song on the record. The song they have chosen ("Taken By A Stranger") is the only track that is kinda different from the others on the album and hence marks a bearable, but not a winning alternative.
Linkin Park Living Things
what deviant said. just boring. also they have no drummer anymore, it's fully electronic. huge disappointment, especially after all the hype. victimized is a bad joke.
Linkin Park From Zero
Wow, this is surprisingly bad. I gave them a fair chance and they blundered it big time.
There is just so much to hate here - rehashed, recycled B-Sides of old Linkin Park songs
wherever you look; weak screams; lukewarm raps; samey and technically poor riffing; no real
standout moments...listen to any Dead Sara album (her last band) and you will find better
songwriting. The only redeeming factors are some of the singles, as well as the standout
track of the record named IGYEIH which is short for I Give You Everything I Have. Overall a
very lackluster effort that definitely feels rushed, which is completely odd because they
had eight f***ing years of time after Chester's death. My goodness. How could you drop the
ball that hard, really? Barely itching a 3, more like a 2 or 2.5, honestly. I'm gutted over
here. I thought bringing in a female fronter aka a fresh voice would be a good idea.
Apparently I was wrong.

Malevolence Malicious Intent
After hearing Malicious Intent and especially Life Sentence I thought to myself, my god, this album slaps. The speed was way higher than expected and I had good fun with this bro-core style of writing. But then came pregnant with meaning midtempo garbage like On Broken Glass and Still Waters Run Deep which sounded like the worst Avenged Sevenfold-songs ever made, so they lost me right there. Higher Place then felt completely out of place - putting a Disturbed-ballad on a record might work for Disturbed, but not for self-declared roughnecks and whiskey-blasting pussy destroyers Malevolence. Neither Matt (Honeycott nor Heafy) could safe this mess. Sad one, the album had promise.

Neaera All Is Dust
Not a big fan of the production. The drums are as powerful and forceful as ever, the guitars are fine-ish, but especially the vocals are weak and too soft. Also the overall sound is way mushier than what we're used to hear from Neaera. Additionally, the record is not very creative. It rather sounds like a B-side of their last two records. Basically just some tracks that were leftover from Ours Is The Storm or the selftitled. The cherry on top is the musical direction they went for. All songs are quite long and each and every single one features a Melodic Death approach akin to recent Heaven Shall Burn outputs, that simply lack a bit of punch. It's a big block of old cheese and every slice tastes the same - rotten. Snows of yesteryear. Sad that they didn't choose to include more breakdowns and spice. Tldr - not as weak as Omnicide, but it's getting awfully close. If there will be another, probably final record, I hope they'll opt for another producer and go back to track structures like The World Devourers, Walls Instead of Bridges, or Let The Tempest Come. PS - thankfully the lyrics are as stellar as ever. A small beacon of hope here...
No Cure It Is Going To Get Dark
If you want to be heavy at all costs, it would probably be beneficial to know how your instruments work at first and not sound like Deez Nuts. Additionally it would be desirable not to have Heaven Shall Burn vocals but the frontman suddenly is five years old. This idiotic, hardcore-laden, high-pitched screaming beatdown crap for braindead scene kids with too much parental money needs to stop asap. Or in other words, bands like for instance Darko US eat these guys here alive, fuck their skulls and spit on their graves after. Knocked Loose have created something truly gruesome - copycatcore for people without taste that have never learned reading even the simplest sheet music. Tldr, this is a perfectly average record. Unnecessary if you're into Nasty, Paleface Swiss, Ten 56., Reflections, The Last Ten Seconds of Life, Traitors, Leaders, Humanity's Last Breath, Distant and the like - you have heard everything on this record already, but better. Don't @ me, I was here before you.

I love Minus the Bear, it's my favourite band of all time. I have most their albums and EP's
at a "5". I even like the first recordings of Jake's first band, State Route 522. This album
here however, was kind of a weak effort to me. It is very long and drawn-out, songs become
boring and repetitive quite quickly, the singing isn't nearly as prominently featured as in
Minus the Bear, and especially the samples threw me off completely. Listening to random
laughing skits from an unknown female midway into a ten minute instrumental epic isn't
exactly what I am looking for when wanting to chill and wanting to enjoy some Jake magic.
So, all in all, this was dead on arrival. Unfortunately. I'd rather listen to State Route

Glad someone likes it, honestly. I personally did not find it enjoyable at all, unfortunately. It sounds like they swapped every single band member between now and their last record. The production has changed drastically, the melodies are totally different, heck, even the cleans sound like they are being sung by someone else. Also there is no mainstream appeal or catchiness at all anymore. It feels like they deliberately wanted the record to feel incohesive, just to be creative, artsy-fartsy, and nonconformist at all costs. You CAN do that, for sure, but then the songs still have to be compelling. And the only remotely catchy one with good breakdowns left is Phoenix Dies. The rest is a moody, inconsistent, dissident mess full of conceited but coequally weak songs like for instance Collateral. Tl;dr: Imho, From A Distance is a hot mess.

Picturesque I Hope You Hate It
Yeah, it's safe to say that their EP title was a bad idea because I was in fact really close to actually hating it. And many others will too. The new mainstream direction they took after the first, quite rocky and forward-driven Post Hardcore longplayer was fine for me if it was hitting it's high notes aka being either extremely catchy like for instance Do Re Mi or very emotionally touching and heartfelt like for example Holding Me Down. This new EP unfortunately features neither. All four songs after the opening track in sum are a pure wasteland of uncatchy, boring, uninspired, moody mid-tempo pop crap without any highlights that you guaranteed will have instantly forgotten after having taken your next big dump. The only redmeeming quality is the aforementioned Everything's Just Fine that keeps this CD from being a total and utter trainwreck in the 1-regions of Sputnik ratings. This specific song is a bit of a bop that you just want to nod your head to. Still, Picturesque will need to finally get a great producer up for their next output who has an ear for melodies and harmonies that leave a lasting impression in ones ears or they won't sell or stream anything anymore and a potential tour will become a financial disaster, especially when trying it overseas. You can't even move your hips from side to side live to sleep-inducing, teen girl's teary-eye shit like tracks 2 or 3. TL DR Picturesque 2024 sound like Ed Sheeran took too many roofies and then had a stroke. Just listen to MIA and keep this picture in mind. You can't even make this shit up...
