5.0 classic
Amaranthe Amaranthe
Avenged Sevenfold City Of Evil
This album is a step in a completely new direction for Avenged Sevenfold, but in my opinion it is a great move. Their new music seems to bring the guitars to the forefront and it makes the songs more enjoyable. The album also showcases M Shadows' melodic vocal talent, rather than his metalcore voice.
Top 3 songs - Beast and the Harlot, Seize the Day, Bat Country
Bottom 3 songs - Sidewinder, Blinded in Chains, Betrayed
Children of Bodom Follow the Reaper
Children of Bodom Hatebreeder
Children of Bodom Chaos Ridden Years - Stockholm Knockout
DragonForce The Power Within
Ensiferum From Afar
Firewind The Premonition
The ultimate Firewind Album. More melody than the previous albums, but does not lose any of the guitar magic that makes Firewind what they are. The cover of Maniac was inspired, even more so than the Pictured Life cover of Between Heaven and Hell. This album has launched Firewind's career from being a great band waiting to breakthrough to being the band at the forefront of Power Metal.
Top 3 songs - Maniac, Head Up High, My Loneliness
Bottom song (there is only one disappointing song) - Life Forclosed
Firewind Live Premonition
Firewind Apotheosis - Live 2012
Firewind Mercenary Man
Halestorm Live in Philly 2010

Everything 'By The Sword and the Cross' should have been. Just compare 'Massacre of the Saxons' and 'The Bloody Verdict of Verden' and you'll see what I mean.
Conjurer I
DragonForce Inhuman Rampage
Although Dragonforce are seen as a band formed by Guitar Hero, it is vital to remember that this album (and therefore Through the Fire and the Flames) was released 21 months before Guitar Hero 3. The album itself is great. There are fast punchy songs, but the album ends on a beautiful ballad, which is really what is necessary for this sort of album (lightspeed songs which leave you to relax at the end).
Top 3 songs - Revolution Deathsquad, Operation Ground & Pound, Trail of Broken Hearts
Bottom 3 songs - Body Breakdown, Cry For Eternity, The Flame of Youth
Firewind Days of Defiance
Probably the best Firewind album released. It doesn't have the catchiness of The Premonition or Allegiance, but the quality of songs are much better. The riffs are more punchy, the solos are more for the song than just for Gus to show, and the keyboards have taken a MASSIVE step up, kudos to Mr Katsionis. Apollo's voice as strong as ever, Petros on bass as solid as usual, Michael Ehre really settles in to the sound and feel of the band. The only thing lacking is a proper power ballad in the vein of My Loneliness from the Premonition, Broken is good but doesn't quite cut it for me.

Best 3 songs - Embrace The Sun, Losing Faith, SKG

For once I can't really say there is a bad song, but Broken and Wild Rose (Bonus Track) are a little underwhelming.

P.S. Get the Limited Edition. Bit more money but you get a KILLER version of Breaking The Law, originally by Judas Priest. It's worth it just for that, but a neat guitar pick puts the icing on the cake.

Bullet For My Valentine Fever
Children of Bodom Relentless Reckless Forever
To me, this is a very good album. Despite the fact that I believe COB will never reach the heights of Follow the Reaper again, I feel this is the most 'essential' album since that album (no offence to any HCDR lovers). The sound seems polished without being over-produced, the riffs have a strong kick to them and Laiho manages to balance showing off and fitting to the song with his guitar solos. Standout tracks, Northpole Throwdown, Was It Worth It? and Ugly.
Children of Bodom Hate Crew Deathroll
Disturbed Ten Thousand Fists
A great album overall. The songs are punchy and in-your-face, and they are all well written. David Draiman is a great vocalist for this sort of band, alnd he has a unique voice it is hard to get tired of. The only downside to the album is that at times it lacks a good guitar solo in a song, such as the one in Land of Confusion.
Top 3 songs - Land Of Confusion, Stricken, 10000 fist
Bottom 3 songs - Deify, Forgiven, Avarice
DragonForce Sonic Firestorm
DragonForce Valley Of The Damned
DragonForce Ultra Beatdown
This is a true Marmite band, and a true Marmite album. You either love or hate Dragonforce, and this album reflects that. Although not as varied as Inhuman Rampage (no power ballad this time) the songs are still fantastic. People say all the songs sound the same, and that may be true to some extent, but the songs are still varied enough to be able to recognise them from one another. The guitar work is great, the drumming (though laborious at times) is quality and the vocals are good. To enjoy the album, I would recommend the bonus version.
Top 3 songs - Heroes of our Time, Strike of the Ninja (bonus track), Reasons to Live
Bottom 3 songs - Inside the Winter Storm, The Warrior's Side, The Last Journey Home
Firewind Between Heaven And Hell
A great album. Starts fantastically with Between Heaven and Hell, Warior, Worlds of Conflict and Destination Forever. Fantastic guitar riffs and solos, good singing and brilliant songs in general. However, the album does trail off a bit at times, with songs like Oceans and End of an Era disappointing. The bonus edition of the album gives 2 demo tracks, which are a real treat.
Top 3 songs - Pictured Life (Scorpions cover), Worlds of Conflict, Firewind Raging
Bottom 3 Songs - Oceans, End of an Era, Who Am I?
Firewind Forged by Fire
A fantastic album from what was a new-look Firewind. The addition of Bob Katsionis and new vocalist Chitral Somapala were positive for the band, and it shows in the quality of this album. As with all Firewind albums, the guitars and vocals are brilliant, and Katsionis' addition on the keyboard only adds to the impact of the songs. This album does slightly trail off by the end, as the slower songs aren't brilliant in this album, bar Hate World Hero.
Top 3 songs - Tyranny, Kill to Live, Feast of the Savages
Bottom 3 songs - Burn In Hell, Perished in Flames, Land of Eternity
Firewind Allegiance
Another great offering from Firewind. Even more quality guitars, even more keyboards, even better drums and even better vocals. Apollo Papathanasio (vocals) and Mark Cross (drums) are great additions to the band. The solos and riffs are magnificent, but some songs are definitely better than others.
Top 3 songs - Insanity, Falling to Pieces, Till the End Of Time
Bottom 3 songs - Where do We Go From Here, The Essence, before The Storm
Firewind Few Against Many
Seriously impressed. Little surprised at the lack of keyboard, but it just enables Firewind to put across a heavier sound, backed up by the drum style of Johan Nunez.

Nightwish Dark Passion Play
Although the firing of Tarja Turunen was a disappointment to most Nightwish fans, many have breathed a sigh of relief that Dark Passion Play didn't need her operatic style to make it fantastic. Anette Olzon, although completely different in style to Turunen, is a fantastic vocalist in her own right. Dark Passion Play, regardless of who the vocalist is, is a fantastic album and a must-own for any Symphonic Metal fan. It starts and ends epically and beautifully, with Poet and the Pendulum and Meadows of Heaven opening and closing the album respectively.rTop 3 songs - Poet and the Pendulum, Bye Bye Beautiful, The IslanderrBottom 3 songs - Whoever Brings the Night, 7 Days to the Wolves, Sahara
Seasick Steve You Can't Teach an Old Dog New Tricks
Sonata Arctica Stones Grow Her Name
Steel Panther Feel the Steel
First things first, this album is NOT to be taken seriously. It's a pisstake of all things Glam, and they do it brilliantly. Up to a limit. The songs are so catchy, but at a certain point you just can't take the filth of the lyrics anymore, they lose the humour after a few listens on the bounce. For a fleeting listen every so often to lift your mood, Feel The Steel is a brilliant album. For a serious following and fanatic obsession, maybe move to something a little more serious.rMusically speaking - Michael Starr has a great voice, Satchel is inspirational on the guitar. Unlike most parody acts, they can really play their instruments well.rBest 3 songs - Fat Girl (Thar She Blows), Party All Day, The ShockerrWorst 3 songs - Girl From Oklahoma, Stripper Girl, Eatin Ain't Cheatin

A good album from Firewind, although it is the weakest in their discography. Powerful guitars and good vocals. The songs fluctuate in rating from the start, with the amazing tracks popping up in random places. Not as good as the preceding Between Heaven And Hell, but still a good offering.
