I was hoping for a more Kisou/Macabre based sound as far as being experimental, and that's exactly what I got, only better. This album is substantially heavier than MoaB, but in a more Progressive Metal way, and maybe a touch of Death Metal. Kyo has the deepest growls he has ever done, and the highest shrieks. The video is fantastic, easily my favorite Dir en grey video. Also, if you have the chance, see them live! I did and it was the greatest concert I have ever been to, they even opened with Obscure!Gorguts ObscuraAt first when I listened to this, I was a little skeptical about the reputation this album had, receiving 5/5's and 10/10's. After listening more though, finally I just, got it. Everything just sort of, made sense, and it was awesome! There are only two reasons I did not give this a higher score, and that is because... (1) The vocals are not terrible, but not amazing either, they were a little off to me. If Kyo of Dir en grey growled in this album it would be perfect. (2) I'm not gonna lie, it can be a bit to handle all at once sometimes, which makes it hard to, well, understand at firstIn Flames WhoracleSay wah? Least favorite is Worlds Within the Margin? As far as songwriting, this is in my opinion a huge step up from Blood Mountain, and I'm kind of liking the story, simply because it is getting a much spacier, and overall epic, but also darker sound. Also, the metaphors in Crack The Skye that relate to both the story and the suicide of Dailor's sister were very unexpected, because this is the first time I have seen a meaningful Mastodon lyric inspired by something meaningful that happened to them. Overall, fantastic album, and the people who say this is not as heavy are correct, it is in fact more melodic, but also feels darker and more serious, which I find much better that previous Mastodon music.Obscura CosmogenesisThis album is definatly a breath of fresh air. The guitars and drums are both fantastic, and the bass is very high up in the mix and full of diversity. The vocals are also pretty good, some parts almost remind me of Frieden (old), in a good way. I've listened to it a few times and it's just plain awesome (coming from someone who's never been a huge fan). The band's guitars have improved in many ways for the better, especially the solos. Very well written and played, I love how they dropped some mathcore-ness for a more jazz and almost deathy feel on some songs (ex. Glory Kingdom).
