I'm probably one of the few that thought there was a step forward here for the band, or at least a non-negative change. The first few tracks strike me as slightly progressive musically, whereas I never got that impression with songs on their previous albums (I'm a fan of Phobia, by the way). A few of the songs aren't anything special, just fairly generic radio/anthem rock, but I still enjoyed the melodies in those songs. He does have a great ear for melody. The album is far from perfect but overall I listen to it on a regular basis now that the songs are stuck in my head. Side note: did anyone else notice that track number four sounds 100% different production-wise? I'm assuming it was mixed somewhere different than the rest of the album (or at least most of the songs on it). It's kind of a downer for me since I'm just getting into the album at this point as I'm listening through it and then all of the sudden it sounds like they threw in a production from a totally different album for one track. Maybe this is just me paying a lot of attention to production, something I've developed a big habit for recently.Fuel SunburnMad Orchid AbsolveMy band: obviously I love the music very much. I gave this EP and our first EP, Detach, a 4 out of 5 because I know we have much better music and much better productions in us, some of which we're working on right now, and some of which I believe is yet to come. To me a 5 out of 5 is my idea of a perfect album and I don't believe we've come too close to that yet, so the honest review is to not give it a perfect rating, even if it is my own band and music. Hopefully in the future I'll be able to give an album of mine a 5 out of 5.Mad Orchid DetachMy band: obviously I love the music very much. Musically, it's inspired, angry, aggressive, not the best production in the world but it does the music some justice considering the raw, angry emotion of the whole album. I enjoyed it very much. The Wallflowers Bringing Down the Horse3.5 greatBreaking Benjamin PhobiaChevelle This Type of Thinking (Could Do Us In)Chevelle Wonder What's NextKISS Love GunKISS Dressed To KillKISS Psycho CircusKorn See You on the Other SideTypically I would have given this album an "average" rating because as far as the song quality goes, most are average, in my opinion. BUT the strongly redeeming quality of this album is that the production is one of the most amazing I've ever heard. Even on the songs I don't like, I could sit there and listen to them a few times over marvelling at the production. It's truly unbelievable. I'd kill to have a production like this for my own band.Scorpions World Wide LiveThornley Come Again3.0 goodBreaking Benjamin We Are Not AloneFuel Natural SelectionKISS Rock And Roll OverKISS Music From The Elder2.5 averageChevelle Sci-Fi CrimesKISS KISS UnpluggedAs a big KISS fan, it's a nice change of pace sonically from everything else KISS and I honestly enjoy most of the performances. I'm not a huge fan of the song selection, which is what keeps me from giving it "good" review, but I have found myself clicking through a few of the tracks from time to time when I'm in a mellower mood but still feelin like listening to some classic rock.2.0 poorKISS Kiss Symphony: Alive IVThornley Tiny PicturesAll I can say is that the drum sounds are so horrendous that it made the album unlistenable. How they even began to think that drum sound was anything but disgraceful is beyond me. I heard the intro to the first song and went "YES, this is gonna kick ASS!!!", and then the second those drums hit, I went "OH MY GOD...what happened and WHO thought that was a good idea?!" I honestly haven't gotten past the first two tracks because I can't listen to those drums. They're so bad I can't focus on anything else. They're like when you see a really ugly, deformed person in a room and no matter how hard you try to focus on other people, your attention just keeps getting pulled back.
