Davy Mooney Astoriano
I discovered Davy Mooney at Bar 55 in NYC's own Greenwich Village when my girlfriend and I were going out for drinks one Sunday evening. I had never visited the famous prohibition-era jazz bar, but the sound of some lively jazz from the street was all it took to draw us in. Once we got inside, we were treated to a wonderful performance from Mooney and his backing band, which lead me to purchase this CD. As far as guitar goes, Mooney is extremely subdued and refined in his playing; don't expect John McLaughlin here. However, he is able to create some extremely good jazz tunes over the course of this 11-track disc. The tracks range from lively and fun (Countdown) to slow and deliberate (Moon Song) to the majestically flowing (The Hills of Earth). There is no real weak spots on this disc, except for the fact that some of the songs can drag on for a bit too long. Overall, if you enjoy rather traditional jazz guitar playing in the vein of Wes Montgomery, I would recommend Astoriano.

G. Love and Special Sauce G. Love and Special Sauce
This albums was a solid debut for G. Love and Special Sauce. Combining the elements of traditional blues with hip-hop, G. Love was able to create some fresh sounding tunes that he would build off of to become an underground legend in the alternative music scene. Though not entirely focused and somewhat immature, one can't argue that this is a solid, and fun, debut.
Girl Talk All Day
Hovering between a 3.5 and 4.0 presently, but I'll go higher for now because of the fun factor. Not as immediately infectious as his past work but the focus on a more expansive and cohesive mash-up should do really well with repeat listenings.

Rival School's first album in over 10 years turns into a rather boring affair. Contains a whole bunch of mid-tempo rockers without any hint of the aggression that permeated their first LP. The first single is really solid though.

First two songs that have been previewed thus far from the album show a slightly different direction from Trampoline. Jack Antanoff takes over full-time singing duties, and "Turnpike Ghost" uses his nasally vocals pretty well overall. I have fairly high hopes for this album.
