5.0 classic
Iron Maiden Live After Death (DVD)
This is the best live album of all time. Even if you are not a fan of the band, it is still something to behold. The energy and flawless musicianship captured on stage demonstrate exactly how Iron Maiden is one of the painfully few bands that actually sound BETTER live than in the studio.
Red Hot Chili Peppers Stadium Arcadium
I will admit, I am a bit of a fan boy.
Californication was awesome.
By the Way, while having its moments, was a bit of a setback IMO and felt that it was a sign of the end of a magnificent run for this band that had spanned 3 decades.
So when word came out that RHCP had a double album in the works, I (a life long fan) was a little skeptical of what they really had left in the tank - let alone a double album.
All they did was put out a double album that can be discussed in the same sentence as two of the other all time great rock double albums.. Led Zep's Physical Graffiti and...yes...The White Album itself!
I was floored by the passion and quality that was put in this record.
And it was almost like rediscovering the genius that is John Frusciante. Holy cow - has that man blossomed as an artist!?! The liner photos show John engulfed in flames. Totally appropriate, the man is absolutely on FIRE on this record!!
Nothing short of an astounding release for a band at this stage in their career. Did Areosmith put out anything this good 25+ years into their careers? Did the Rolling Stones? Who else could put out something of this quality at a point in a musical career when most other bands that last this long are running off the fumes of glory from long lost decades, RHCP makes a statement that they are indeed one of the all time greats!
Brilliant!
The Beatles The Beatles
This record should be put in a space capsule and fired into the deepest and blackest void. It is an absolute priceless treasure of the spirit of human ingenuity and creativity and should be one of the 1st experiences of human artistic expression any extra terrestrial should be aware of...least they think we humans are capable of only destruction and brutality. This is one of the best works of art our species has ever produced.

4.5 superb
Kyuss Welcome To Sky Valley
What can I say that hasn't already been said? If this disc isn't in your collection you are lame.
Secret Chiefs 3 Second Grand Constitution and Bylaws
Secret Chiefs 3 is some of the most unusual, mysterious, and beautiful music you might find. A unique blend of surf/psychedellia/middle eastern/techno/metal. This is a really cool band that does not get the press they deserve.

4.0 excellent
Grateful Dead Aoxomoxoa
Damn, I love this record! Some great classic Dead tunes and a really wild piece in Whats Become of the Baby. That track is a mind-bender that is not for the faint of heart!
Grateful Dead Anthem of the Sun
This quirky Grateful Dead record is one of my favorites. The only Grateful Dead album intentionally 'mixed for the hallucinations' in the studio, it is so spaced-out-cosmic-insane! And while it certainly sounds 'dated' to the '60s, it is a timeless piece of mental mayhem. I believe it was these earlier efforts by the Grateful Dead that paved the way for other 'way out there' experimental groups yet to come. I cannot see anyone giving artists such as Mr.Bungle a record contract if mass mental mayhem had not already been demonstrated a profitable venture by these lovely space cadets from SF
Queens of the Stone Age Era Vulgaris
It really seems a lot of people misunderstand Queens of the Stone Age.
From my perspective this is an underground art house band who just happens to be mainstream. Aside from the contract obligitory single or two off each album, they really arent a Pearl Jam or any other radio-friendly rock band, seems as if many wished they were. Why? Like 'modern art', modern rock is going to be abstract and weird at times and you will love it or hate it. Innovation can only come from experimentation.
They say there is a fine line between genius and insanity.
People blasting this record hear insanity. I hear genius. Bravo for pushing the experimental envelope!
And boo-hoo to all you guys who were hoping for formulatic sound akin to something that has already been done. Be a Korn fan if you want an artist to beat a sound to death.
No two Queens songs or albums will ever sound the same. That's what makes them great IMO
The Raconteurs Consolers of the Lonely
I always wondered what Jack White would sound like with a full arsenal of talented musicians. I appreciate how Jack White does not glorify himself in this band - but just a cog in the machine that is making some very, very good music! In my opinion, this music is of higher quality than White Stripes which is after all a one man show. But its also apples/oranges to compare the two. The Raconteurs stand on their own as a true BAND and not just a mere side project. I hope they have a nice long run ahead of them!

3.5 great
Eagles Of Death Metal Death By Sexy
This band is just FUN to listen to. Don't over-analyze a band such as EODM or you miss the point completely.
Relax - shake yo azz and have a blast!

3.0 good
Tool 10,000 Days
Its Tool, so it is much better than most other band's efforts.
But after 5 years - they present a glorified EP.
There is just as many filler tracks on this record as there are real tracks. So lets see....6 new songs in 5 years.
Granted, they are 6 quite good new songs. Although the title track is needlessly dragged out to fill space.
We all know Tool can do better than 6 songs in 5 years.
