Trash the original release of UROBOROS.

While it still retains the bi-polar track list that is intent on spoiling the rest of the album for you by opening with
VINUSHKA (which makes more sense as a closer), & making you jump from slow to fast to slow in a blink of an eye, &
randomly has a remade song (HYDRA-666) taking a narrative non-sequitor in the middle, this is a vast improvement in
every conceivable area over the initial release.

Anyone who denies this is either deaf, in denial, or justifying their purchase of a now inferior musical product (& this is
coming from a guy who bought the expensive CD/DVD/Vinyl set).

It properly sounds like the bridge between MARROW & DUM SPIRO SPERO; crystal clear production of the latter, but with
a slight more emphasis on the lower & bassier ends of the earlier.

Regardless, the album is finally deserving of some of the overblown, masturbatory praise many western 'johnny come
latleys' gave to the un-remastered version years ago.

Overtime, this album grows on me a lot & throughly enjoy the music played when in the right mood. rSadly, the lyrics are a vast glaring weakness on this album, & I would've honestly preferred no-vocals & vocal scatting more often than the weak lyrics offered (disguised in an otherwise good vocal performance).

MUCC Karma
I'd have to disagree w/ redriver below; this is a far better & cohesive album than MUCC's past 2 or 3 releases.

The problem with this, however, is that it's a complete about face to what they were attempting with the past 2 or 3 releases (Kyuutai, Shion & Gokusai being some sort of hybrid of their old sound structures w/ more trendy metal-pop), that the sense of betrayal still remains:

"Tatsurou being autotune? Where are the real drums? What the fu**?" & so forth.

In discographical context, Karma should be given credit where it's due: it feels like it has an identity, even when it abruptly goes back to Homura Uta w/ the refreshing old school "Daraku", & you can tell the band spent a good amount of time making the songs, regardless of their out of character sound, compared to familiar melodies & structures that can be found on Kyuutai.

I hated Karma the first listen (I would've given it a 0.5 at some point), & even though it sounds like the "Grand Tatsurou Solo Band" playing Electronic Disco half the time (yes, I still roll my eyes at the autotune), I have to admit it sounded like they gave a damn this time.

It's also almost sinfully catchy; it's just a random aberration that MUCC, a once traditionally Angura-Kei band, ended up releasing this, & not some other properly underground Shibuya-Kei band.

AFI Burials
AFI finally comes back from the dead with Burials. This was an album they needed to release, & renewed refforts at composition & constructing melodies are evident within the first 2 tracks. rIMO, I hope they can progress back to the complexity of Sing the Sorrow, which still remains to be their best rpurley from a compositional standpoint. STS felt like they were on the verge of a band defining sound, & rBurials feels like them picking up the pieces to try & lay a foundation for something akin, but different. r"Heart Stops" and "A Deep Slow Panic" still bring the radio friendliess, but more tastefully this time around & rrenewed interest in NIN like electronic elements via "The Conductor", & creating songs that take their time in rthe verses to display a story (Arcade Fire's recent "Reflecktor" comes to mind with some of the guitar rnoodling): these all help differentiate "Burials" from "Decemberunderground" & "Crash Love". rGood stuff; I hope the band takes more time to make new music & revisits more older material in their tours. rIt would do them a huge service to relearn from their past selves. r"I Hope You Suffer", "17 Crimes", "No Resurrection", & "The Embrace" are worth looking up.

BT finally releases an album with some character after the last two entries.

Not a challenging album by any means, but any band that's been around this long is bound to recycle some of their own ideas.

However, the band makes it work, albeit if some of the songs are overwrought & bloated, & provides a comfortable listen for their long time fans.

As for me, I'm still waiting for something that tops Razzle Dazzle creatively. This album is a step in that direction, but the band doesn't take many risks here.

*10/17/16 - Might need a 3rd or 4th listen, this is at least a 3.5 perhaps.

Metallica Hardwired...To Self-Destruct
The 1st CD sounds mostly like Death Magnetic leftovers, & therefore is hot garbage.

The 2nd CD, however, is actually kind of amazing & has their strongest material since The Black
Album.

Strange; I guess they got paranoid about whittling down the album. The identity suffers.

Best Tracks: All of the 2nd disc

Hardwired
(great opener, wish they had done more shorter songs like this)
When A Blind Man Cries
(lyrics are very simple, but this is a great throwback to a bluesy Black Sabbath like
ballad)

Worst Tracks:

Atlas Rise
(repetitive; I went into Audacity & cut off the song at the 3:10 mark; everything afterwards is
mediocre masturbation)

Dream No More (fuck this song; whoever thinks this is "doom" inspired never listens to
doom or is an idiot)

Halo on Fire (terrible lazy ballad, so fuck this song too)

Moth Into Flame (bland; several songs do the structure & pace much better)

1/2 ain't bad after such an extended hiatus. "Genocidal Humanoidz" is a great little slice of redemptive ,an angry SOAD protest metal timely delivered to us during Americas elections.

But the actual sum of the songs parts sound too much like a b-side than a full-fledged song. But this is the song that sounds more earnest of the duo.

As for the later: one but can't help but feel nothing but contempt that the band re-uses the "Lonely Day" song melody for something that comes off as less than even "Lonely Day", which actually had better production value going for it, in this case.

While many and I are howling in joy at the return of SOAD, their initial offering on their return is anything but just good enough to raise an eyebrow or two.

I give it another 6 months of back and forth reports of "reunions", and this will probably be the last we hear of the group.
