Their self titled CD was amazing, and still one of my top 5 favorite CDs... so everything else looks bad in comparison to it. I do like some of the tracks on here a lot though. I think the big issue for me is their lack of a solid pace structure. They throw soft and slow songs between 2 thrash songs with a nice pace. The structure being like this really takes me out of the music more than it should. Now for the happy side. I love the tracks gehenna, sulfur, and dead memories. They are tracks I will listen to for a long time to come. Great vocals, drums, tempo, and above all some nice guitar work. There are also 2 really nice fast pace songs that feel more like their earlier work. Gematria and this cold black feel just like the older work of theirs I liked in my youth. All in all I feel like this is a album that almost did it right. There are about 3 or 4 tracks on it that force me to not love this as much as I could on a whole. The largest one is psychosocial. I almost skipped buying this CD after hearing that song. I believe making it the single for release was such a mistake, and it is the second worst song they have ever released. Sorry to any fans of this song. It has a nice chorus and some good guitar work, but every other aspect to it I heavily disliked. I'll remain a big fan of slipknot for many more years, and I hope their next work can be a more coherent outing than this. I strongly recommend this CD to any fans of V3.
